I know he was involved with the Blue Murder project, but has he otherwise retired from the scene? If so, that'd be a shame, as he's such a remarkable singer (and songwriter)

Remarkable, yes. But he can vary from remarkably good to remarkably bad.

There's a couple of tracks on Blue Murder which are a total embarassment.

And yet his 'I saw three ships' song is a masterpiece.

I can see this thread has generated a load of interest --have had to refresh it after one day!!

Just to set the record straight,I have seen and heard mick perform over the last thirty two years both solo and part of the watersons, watersons/carthy, blue murder and can you remember "Angelo" and have never seen him put in a bad performance.I remember the so called purists giving him an awful slating over "Bright Pheobus" when that was released.That piece of work written in collaberation with his sister lal has got to be one of the finest and freshest collection of songs ever put together and performed.

I would agree with you red max, a truly remarkable singer and songwriter.

I would agree he is a first class performer. And an EXCELLENT songwriter.

He sang ballads for the recent BBC Radio 2 adaptation of The Charge Of The Light Brigade.
