Smiley Burnette sang silly stuff in this, but there was another guy with who sang a couple of songs, one of them was just beautiful about "Molly". He was good looking, played the guitar and was accompanied by a fella on what looked like a baritone uke, a guy on jug, and another with a small accordion. Rog and I both recognised his voice and he looked familiar, but we couldn't place his name. The credits I have found say nothing! Anyone know who he was? He looked as though he might have been an early Andy Griffith. Thanks, here's the info:

Charles Starrett, Smiley Burnette, Fred Sears

Laramie Theme Song

"Laramie" music by Cyril J. Mockridge and lyrics by Bill Olafson

Stranger ride carefully
Stay 'way from your gun.
There's danger in Laramie for men on the run.
Your gray eyes shift warily,
There's no room here for you.
Just stay wise, this is Laramie
Keep traveling on through.

Faster guns than yours have made the foolish play
The next time that you draw may be the last.
We're a peaceful town; we aim to stay that way.
Our justice isn't fancy but it's fast.
So...

Surely if Hoagy Carmichael was in the cast he was the singer? You know Tumblin' Tumbleweeds etc.

Credit where credit is due -- from "Bockbuster.com":

                           Synopsis

Heavily trimmed prior to release, this entry in the Charles Starrett "Durango Kid" Western series for Columbia includes leading man Starrett dressed up as John Wayne's stunt double Yakima Canutt in order to match an entire sequence of stock footage lifted from the classic Stagecoach(1939). Starrett plays his usual double-role as Steve (surname Holden this time around) and the Durango Kid, working desperately to prove that gun-runner Cronin (Robert J. Wilke) killed Chief Eagle (Chief Shooting Star) in order to exploit an Indian war. To flush out Cronin and his cronies, Steve gets help from shoe repairman Smiley Burnette and the fort commandant's young son (Tommy Ivo). Yodeling specialist Elton Britt performs his own "Chime Bells" and William Shakespeare Hays' "Mollie Darlin" while Smiley Burnette takes care of Who Don't?" and "The Happy Cobbler), both self-composed. ~ Hans J. Thank you, Peter T and Masato! Elton Britt had a beautiful voice. The movie really wasn't that bad, well, lots of stereotyping, etc., but the music bits were great!

One thing that was hilarious...when the cavalry was chasing after the white men dressed up as "Indians" on purpose, across the flats which were supposed to be the prairie of Wyoming, Shiprock and other notable geological formations in Arizona were the obvious backdrop.

Also, at one point, an "Indian" made the sound of a "peacock" which, last I knew, was NOT a native bird of ol' Wyomin'!

Jay Silverheels also starred in it.

Thanks for the effort, Gene.:-)

kat

Thanks,

Thank you Peter T.

I have never before used Blockbuster (didn't evn occur to me) it is a VERY logical choice and have added it. IMDB has been virtually my only source for the past five years.

Thanks for the education.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

The only film that Jay Silverheels made which fits the bill is " Laramie Mountain" 1952 !!!!!!

DUH!!!I hope that last reply wasn't in answer to my reply!! My reply is surely stating that the movie probably wasn't called " Laramie" but " Laramie Moutain" which in turn would suggest that a rethink as to the singer of the movie's theme is required!!! Get it!!!!

Gene, sorry for any misunderstanding. I thought this was pretty clear: there was another guy who sang a couple of songs, one of them was just beautiful about "Molly". I did follow that with a description of the other band members who played with him.

Tunesmith, all you have to do is follow Masato's link, click on "more" at the bottom of the first list of cast members and you will see that Jay Silverheels is listed. You will also see that he and several others were "uncredited," so perhaps that would explain your not knowing about this movie, which was simply named "Laramie," as I'd noted.
