Subject: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: DonMeixner Date: 27 Jun 03 - 10:01 PM I think we all have heard a song we have been quite taken with and we can't seem to find it anywhere. For me it has been Schooner Fare's tune "Portland Town" which I just found on an all Maritimes Sites. What have you been looking for? Maybe I know it. And if not me certainly someone else will. Don |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: hesperis Date: 27 Jun 03 - 10:26 PM I'm looking for a tune to a song called "Fllow me to the Forest" that's supposed to be adapted from a traditional european folk song... I can't find it anywhere, and mudcatters hadn't heard of it, either. I'm kinda shy of writing to the artist I first heard do it, as her email didn't work and she never replied to the note I left on her site either. :( |
Subject: ADDPOP: Follow Me to the Forest From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Jun 03 - 02:09 AM Hi, Hesperis - there's an MP3 of a song called "Follow Me to the Forest" here (click). This woman named "Lady Siobhan" seemes to be the only person listed as having recorded the song. -Joe Offer- Here's what I hear from the recording. The tune really bugs me. I know it, but I can't remember the lyrics I know. Can anybody clue me in?
What is this longing, longing inside me? My spirit yearns for beauty, beauty of the lady. What is this longing, longing inside me? My spirit yearns for beauty, beauty of the lady. Follow me to the forest, forest enchanted My spirit yearns for beauty, beauty of the lady. Follow me to the forest, forest enchanted My spirit yearns for beauty, beauty of the lady. Hear the woods beckon, beckon so strongly Like they are tears and answers, answers they're calling. Hear the woods beckon, beckon so strongly Like they are tears and answers, answers they're calling. Follow me to the forest, forest enchanted Like they are tears and answers, answers they're calling. Follow me to the forest, forest enchanted Like they are tears and answers, answers they're calling. Come and wrap (trap?) your arms, your arms around me Lay me down in leafy green and show me how you love me. Come and wrap your arms, your arms around me Lay me down in leafy green and show me how you love me. Follow me to the forest, forest enchanted Lay me down in leafy green and show me how you love me. Follow me to the forest, forest enchanted Lay me down in leafy green and show me how you love me. Mind you, this is NOT my kind of song... But what's the tune? It has sort of a calypso feel to it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: hesperis Date: 28 Jun 03 - 02:53 AM Sorry, I'm not looking for the tune, I'm looking for the original song... I learned it from her recording. And the tune does feel familiar, eh? Older thread here: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=26410 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Jun 03 - 04:50 AM Ohhhh..."my fey heart hears and answers." I shoulda got that. Anyhow, I suppose it's best to discuss that "forest" song in the particular thread dedicated to it. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Deckman Date: 28 Jun 03 - 05:22 AM A while ago, I heard a brief part of a song that was credited to Tom Paxton. I think I remember that he wrote to his wife for their anniversery. I've not had any luck in finding it. Any ideas? CHEERS, Bob |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been look From: Helen Date: 28 Jun 03 - 06:28 AM The tune is something that I sang in a singing workshop in Tasmania, Australi in January this year. It's a women's song and by that I mean, something that is sung in women's song circles, or in the context of re-empowering women. Dammn, now I'll have to try to remember the words that were given in that workshop. Earworm alert! Helen |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Mark Cohen Date: 28 Jun 03 - 06:58 AM Bob, would it be, I Give You the Morning, or My Lady's A Wild Flying Dove? Those are two of the most wonderful love songs he -- or anyone, really -- has written. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Mark Cohen Date: 28 Jun 03 - 07:03 AM PS, the one I've been looking for since 1969 is a song called "Rue de la Paix", which I heard performed by Emmett "Robby" Robinson at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr, PA (near Philadelphia). I started a thread about it here, but didn't find it. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Brían Date: 28 Jun 03 - 07:06 AM I have a home made tape of Robbie McMahon singing at a fleadh in Ennis in 2001 which a friend gave to me that it is so wonderful yet so garbled it has left my locks few and grey. There is a wonderful song about the Wexford rising in 1798 that would probably start another rising if I posted it. Brían |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been look From: Helen Date: 29 Jun 03 - 04:54 PM My previous post was about hesperis's song search. I take back what I said about the tune being a women's song - in the sense of women's empowerment. I remember now that it was Bulgarian or from somewhere near there. Therefore, with the fact that my brain doesn't retain lyrics, even English language ones, the chances of me remembering the lyrics in a language I know nothing about are miniscule, but, somewhere there is the song sheet from the workshop, and I just have to find it. Don OUTWARD BOUND ^^^ (Tom Paxton) Outward bound, upon a ship that sails no ocean Outward bound, it has no crew but me and you All alone when just a minute ago the shore was filled with people With people that we knew So farewell, adieu, so long, vaya con Dios May they find whatever they are lookin for Remember when the wine was better than ever before We could not ask, we could not ask for more Outward bound upon a journey without ending Outward bound with uncharted waters beneath our bow For behind, the green familiar shore is fading into time And time has left us now Outward bound, upon a ship with tattered sail Outward bound upon a crooked lonesome trail Things we learn, we'll just be satisfied in knowing And we'll tell it to our kids as a fairy tale recorded by Tom Paxton Copyright Cherry Lane Music Publishing Co., Inc. @travel filename[ OUTBND SOF |
Subject: DTADD: Marry Me Again (Debi Smith & Tom Paxton) From: Mark Cohen Date: 29 Jun 03 - 09:41 PM I wonder if it's this new one by Tom, from his new album, "Looking for the Moon." I haven't heard it, but it seems like this may be what you're looking for: ^^ Marry Me Again (c) Debi Smith and Tom Paxton Marry me again; marry me tonight I will bring the candles; you turn out the light. Safely in our own world, we'll remember when We will plan tomorrow-- marry me again Marry me again; come and hold me tight When I see you smiling, I don't need the light I love you even more now - than I loved you then Come and make me happier still--marry me again All I ask is all your days and nights All I ask is all your months and years We've already come so far together We've already buried all our fears You will never know; you would never guess Just how much I love you, unless I confess Telling you I love you ten times ten times ten Make my life complete, now, marry me again Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been look From: Lyrical Lady Date: 30 Jun 03 - 12:15 AM I've been looking for a traditional Irish tune ... and all I can remember about it is that it is a Christmas song about Mary, in her mantle of blue. Subject: Lyr Add: A CRADLE SONG (Padraic Colum) From: Helen Date: 30 Jun 03 - 01:32 AM Padraic Colum A Cradle Song O men from the fields, Come gently within. Tread softly, softly O men coming in! Mavourneen is going From me and from you, Where Mary will fold him With mantle of blue! From reek of the smoke And cold of the floor And the peering of things Across the half-door. O men of the fields, Soft, softly come thro' Mary puts round him Her mantle of blue. Try a search on Google.com using the phrase, in double quotes: "mantle of blue" Helen |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Jul 03 - 08:22 PM You know, this thread is giving me trouble, because we have information about a wide variety of songs, all jumbled together. I think when it dies down, I'll move the messages to threads that pertain to the particular songs. Is that OK? In the meantime, could I ask you all to put the title of the song you're talking about in the title of the message you're posting. But is it OK with everybody if I move messages? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: DonMeixner Date: 01 Jul 03 - 11:30 PM Go ahead Joe, when I started this thread I was just wondering what people were looking for. I am often amazed when a song I've wondered about for years is in someone's back pocket that I see everyday. If there is any value to the info here, archive it where it will help anyone. Don |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Zhenya Date: 02 Jul 03 - 02:13 PM Right at the moment I'm having a somewhat related problem. I heard Steve Tilston sing his song Slipjigs and Reels at Old Songs this weekend. And now I'm trying to remember which recording (not by Steve Tilston) that I already own has this song on it. I have a fairly large collection of recordings, and I know this recording is SOMEWHERE in my home... I tried plugging the title into Google, but there have been enough recordings of the song that I haven't found the one I'm thinking of yet. (I'm assuming I'll recognize it when I come across it.) Perhaps people could mention any recording they're aware of ? Otherwise, I'll just have to find time to search on likely albums, or hopefully just by accident it will be on the next album I feel like listening to. I've had this problem before (especially with tunes), which perhaps means I own too many recordings and can't keep them all straight. However, I don't expect this to stop me from continuing to add to the collection. (It doesn't happen with everything. Just some albums I'm more familiar with than others.) On the positive side, I've often rediscovered albums this way, and end up getting more familiar with them after the fact. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 03 - 05:04 PM Hi, Zhenya - I have the same problem - finding recordings I know I have somewhere. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: GUEST Date: 03 Jul 03 - 06:54 PM I am looking for the words to an old shouting time gospel song called "Over the silent Sea" What I remember: "I have a mansion over yonder, I know the sweetest flowers there grow the chilling winds never blow There's where you will find me when I'm finished below, for I'm bound over the silent sea." I never heard it in person that I recall-I had the same dream about going to church once or twice a month for ten years and they always sang it about the time I woke up from it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 04 Jul 03 - 10:55 AM Moving messages to appropriate threads sounds not only desirable but necessary. But keeping the list of unfound lyrics up to date, so one can just scan the list instead of all the prior threads, is important! I am onsite only intermittently, as I have to pry myself loose for other activities, and miss threads. I have had such good luck with help from knowledgeable 'Catters that it delights me to scan the list from time to time, and give a bit of payback with one I know, or can find. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: What is the one song you've been looking From: LadyJean Date: 04 Jul 03 - 09:47 PM At an S.C.A. Pensic war, I heard a woman sing a song that began, "Sweeter the new wine in the vine in the vine." The chorus went something like ton ton ton ton dur, ton ton dur et ton ton ton. I believe she had translated the lyrics either from French or Breton. I would give a double batch of my chocolate chip brownies to have them! |
