Anyone out there like to share a local hero with us. A local performer who influenced them, but who never made an impression nationally/internationally i.e. is unknown to most of us. I'm thinking of an artist who you think warrents/deserves wider recognition.

A relatively recent local hero is George Papavgeris who started writing songs only a couple of years ago. His songs are potent and show his soul clearly....

(no order of precedence - and apologies to anyone I've momentarily forgotten)
Mike Tierney, Jimmy Carroll, Mick Hilton, Jezz Cox, Skyport, Andy Olver, Andy Spiers, Andy from the Reformation, Val that sings blues & plays accordian (not at same time), Pearl (as in Tony & Pearl), Robin Burns, Roger that plays guitar and English Concertina, and very very especially Steve Gardiner who is no longer with us, but who had the most beautiful voice, exquisite guitarplaying & the wickedest parodies.
All very local and very heroic - and all have inspired me in various ways. They are all people who are excellent musicians/singers, and they all have that X factor that makes people listen & makes people love them.

Big Pete Rodgers, from the Blackpool Taverners. Great voice, great love of the music.

Ahhh, So so many!! All the people at my local folk club who have encouraged me and believed in me throughout the years. They've supported me at local gigs and further afield - Keith Cockburn, Colin Campbell, Aly Walls, Jimmy Mitchell, Gordon Campbell, Davy and Sandra McIntosh, Lindy Cheyne, Ian Hamilton, the list could go on! But of course a special mention to my mum and dad who have had to drive me about for the last 4 years to folk clubs and festivals and gigs, Its ok now that im learning to drive! They are my real local heroes! (aw! aint that sweet!hehe) sho x
