Subject: Your {Presidential Succession List!!!
From: Peter T.

In order to make everyon in America more secure, they are discussing changing the succession list. The current list is: Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Camilla, Sir Elton John -- sorry, wrong list.

The current order of succession lists President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Senate President Pro Tempore Ted Stevens, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Secretary of the Treasury John Snow, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Ashcroft and Norton. Then, Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman, Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, Secretary of Health and Human Services (news - web sites) Tommy Thompson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Mel Martinez, Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham, Secretary of Education Rod Paige, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi and Tom Ridge (working his way up this list!!!)

OK. What is your preferred list, based of course on dignity, worthiness, and ability to handle an emergency? My draft list:

1. President George W. Bush (deceased or incapacitated, well, more incapacitated -- that is the whole point)
2. Julia Roberts.
3. Natalie Maines
4. Willie Nelson
5. Bob Barker
6. Harvey Korman (Tim Conway, tied)
7. Wonder Woman
8. Tony Bennett
9. Jack Nicholson
10. Chelsea Clinton

Over to you!!! yours, Peter T.

I think we need to import some fresh blood into this loop, Peter, so I am submitting your name to the list.

It'll give you a great chance to try out many of your favorite theories!! :>)

Sorry, I am a Canadian, and can't be President (sighs of relief all round). I believe one of the current Secretaries has the same problem, except he is Mexican or something.

yours, Peter T.

NO AMOS!!! NO!!!

Nothing against Peter, but if we open the Presidency up to Canadians we have to open it to all Canadians! That would mean that a certain Canadian Mudcatter would be able to nominate another certain Canadian who shall remain unnamed but who played a leading role in a 1960's science fiction television series. It must be avoided at all costs.

My friend, Dr Rendell, has received the following message, which may influence choice in this matter:

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500
employees and has the following statistics:

29 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad cheques
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Can you guess which organisation this is?
Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.

The same group of people that crank out hundreds of new laws each year
designed to keep Americans in line, and influence the rest of the World with their 'wisdom'.

That's nothing! According to statistics I have heard, all the prime ministers of France have been accused of committing sodomy - with a parrot! And there are witnesses..............

This is a great idea Peter but you've forgotten that this is a folk & blues music forum. I mean, as long as we're going to improve the country, why not go all the way? My succession list, minus Dubya who can't succeed (DUH!) himself:
  1. Bruce “Utah” Phillips
  2. Buddy Guy
  3. Willie Nelson (good choice)
  4. B.B. King
  5. Jean Ritchie
  6. Art Thieme
  7. Duke Robillard
  8. Carey Bell
  9. Doc Watson
  10. Corky Siegel

I don't think I would wish it on any of those guys -- or Peter T, either, for that matter -- because although they would improve matters, I value them too highly to subject them to it!

When I was in high school, I voted for Mrs. Calloman, the Social Studies teacher for president. I still think she'd be a good candidate. Bet she knows more about the constitution than W!
Incidentally, if you don't like these clowns, you CAN still vote them out of office.

1. GWB.
2. Me. (I promise to resign as soon as I'm vested for the retirement bennies, and to try not to screw things up too badly until then.)
3. My wife.

112. Prince Charles. He needs a job.

Bee-Dubya-Ell
Don't be so negative. It's a great idea!
Shatner for President!
As long as he has to sing the State of the Union Address!
Hey - Compared to our other choices, how much worse can it be?

A few Canucks in that list, Carol. Is this some reflection of the company you're keeping?

This is drift - but, who decides a President is or is not incapacitated? Not so much strokes and heart attacks, but gone round the bend?

1. Ed Sams (he's the guy who weekly picks up my garbage and does a damn fine job)
2. Phil Jackson -- Nobody in public life has exibited such successful leadership
3. Rick Reilly -- as long as I was on a sports state of mind, why not include my fav sports writer?
4. John Goodman -- I hear he has the experience in these matters.
