I finally got a few more pics from the Mystic Sea Music festival up and sort of labeled (I thought one program had done what I wanted, but it didn't save my overlay printing, so I switched...*grump*)

anyway, here is the directory...don't have neato thumbnails yet. There are maybe 10-12 more I will try to get up tomorrow. (Oh...I sure didn't get everywhere and photograph everything! If anyone else has some...trot 'em out!)

Bill, thanks for the pics - I'm sending the link to Danny Spooner & to another shantysinging friend who has sailed on a tallship.

The pics are great - the live oak pics are amazing - & it's good to put faces to Mudcatters.

Charley - does Don Sinetti really sing louder that John Warner?

Bill -- this particular "guest" is Celtaddict; we met at the Festival. Computer at work does not recognize me, and my home one seems to have lost its cookie. Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try when I get home.
Sandra: much louder. There is a scenic overlook from I-95 about a mile above the Seaport, and Jerry Bryant suggests renaming it the Don Sineti Scenic Overhear. I know from personal experience he can be heard without a mike singing (clearly enough to know what verse he has reached) from over a quarter mile away.

Sandra-

Don Sinetti, known around here as "THE BIG FELLOW, doesn't sing louder than our fine friend John Warner but he sings in a much deeper bass register, rumored to provoke mudslides and tsunamies.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Well, Bill, I casually said I would try your advice, then read it and realized I don't actually speak the language of letters. Can I simply "paste" one into the "reply to thread" box?
By the way, in your pics, "celtaddict" is the one in the crowd shot in the coral hat and tropical shirt, talking to Robbie O'Connell and in another standing with Art Dean.

Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport

celtaddict....letters, hmmm... Well "ISP" is your "Internet Service Provider"..in my case, Erols... in your case, AOL?, MSN?, Earthlink?....you may or may not have space available on their servers, you'd have to ask...

FTP is a program designed to send files from you to them, and place them on your reserved 'site' in some order, as I have done with my directory. It can be a bit tricky the first couple of times you do it

....so....as I mentioned, you could email some pics to Pene Azul and have hime place them in Mudcat's events listings.

once those pics are on a site, you can paste THAT address into the "reply to thread box", but not if they are just living in a directory on your home computer.....unless...*grin*...you are running some sort of 'server' program that allows folks to access YOUR machine directly.

Clear as Mud now?

And it hit me with a slight pang of homesickness. The Seaport is looking good. Wish I could have been there.

well, durn, Marc....just lucky, I guess..*grin* (and that concert tent is VERY hard to take decent pics in with the background glare)

(having been there only twice, maybe I just don't know who's important yet!)

I do have one photo from last year of someone faintly resembling you in the background, wearing a Mudcat tee-shirt.

At our local festival, I used to do photo documentation and try to get everyone, but at Mystic, I sorta just grabbed the camera at odd times....and I have NO idea why I didn't have it out during the "Pirate" song!

I shall be ever so careful in the future!

Is the tall darkhaired dancer in the far right of the photo possibly Jon Campbell? I never saw him there though he was certainly quoted. It was observed as well that in a few more years we may be hearing a workshop of his songs. What august company, joining Stan Rogers, Cyril Tawney, Harry Robertson.

Jon Campbell was at the Festival, and there should be a future workshop focused on his songs. I'm not sure what it should be called other than "The Warped Songs of Jon Campbell."

I will keep telling everyone who will listen that Jon Campbell is a brilliant songwriter and that, while his off the wall humorous songs are incredible, he also has written some wonderful more serious ones, which should be heard much more!!
(One day he will probably feel a bit like Dave Mallett: Dave has written magnificent songs, and the one he is most known for is "The Garden Song" which is quite singable but an inadequate legacy. Jon has written songs with fantastically clever lyrics and also some marvelously poignant ones, and it would be a shame to be remembered only for "Tanqueray Martini-o" no matter how much it is enjoyed.)
Plan to add photos to Bill D's tomorrow, assuming I get home.

Charley Noble and I seem to be the major Campbellophiles here. Sure. New thread coming up when I am home from work. He has one CD out, "Keep On Fishin'" and it is an indy. There are several cassettes, most I believe out of publication. Tommy Makem recorded "Tanqueray Martini-O" (the yachtsmen's shanty). I will also in the spirit of endless musical crossfertilization or plugging, as you will, post how to get the CD from the man.

Meanwhile, if you type "Jon Campbell" into the Mudcat search box you will find lyrics to "Winnebacome, Winnebago" in the DT and Jon turns up on a variety of threads, with lyrics to several songs.

It's good to have a little info before deciding to buy a cd. Thank you!

Marc B. and Robbie O'Connell are also fans of Jon Campbell.

Let's not forget Jon's "Frederick's of Galilee," his classic song about "appropriate apparel" for those "knotty and nautically" inclined.

Yes, Jon, occasionally does a more serious song. And sometimes I'm even "unwarped" one of his songs such as "The Mary" so that it's straight nostalgia for an old coastal tanker.

So maybe this should all be pulled togther into a new JON CAMPBELL REDISCOVERED thread.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

True, Robbie and Marc, and also Geoff Kaufman, do Jon both homage and justice. I pestered Geoff for years (literally) to learn "Restless Waters" and he says it will be the title track of his next solo CD.
And, Charley, I will continue to disagree, most civilly, as I do not hear the lasts verse of "The Mary Galately" as cynical at all, and in fact the idea, totally consistent with Jon's propensity for the play on words, of her being at last a sleek silver cutter choked me up a bit the first time I heard it.

Great pics thanks, Bill!

Mystic is one of the places I'll be singing with Shellbacks in October, and it looks absolutely wonderful (won't get a MMario suntan in October...)

I've met Danny Spooner when he was over at the Mersey Shanty festival last year, and I spied Bob Walser in one of the crowd pics- he was over here for the National this year.

Danny Spooner has been in & out of Wash DC area for the last several weeks---we sang with him at a party on the 4th of July, and he will be doing a house concert at my house the 31st of July...then he will be at vocal week at Augusta Heritage (my wife, Ferrara, is going also)...and he is at several other places all this month. He is cramming a lot into his first USA trip!
