Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 26 Jun 04 - 05:44 PM as I just PMd Celtaddict, I had to take down those pics for space (I post wood pics also and use some space for Getaway programs..etc), and will soon be changing ISPs (during the next 2 weeks), so I will have to figure out a new place to post. There are various possibilities....but I still have a bunch of images from 2002 & 2003 and will be glad to find a particular subject and make it available.... |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 26 Jun 04 - 05:38 PM This is 2003; just refreshing so I can find it again. (Can't find a way to put a tracer on a thread that is not active.) |

Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 16 Jul 03 - 11:03 AM umm...the links higher up in the threads still work also...*sly grin*...but scrolling is SO much work.... Anyway, Celtaddict...those new pics are really nice...the one of the dories in the twilight is amazing! (And I know I will never mistake Danny Spooner for Bob Walser now!..*WINK*) |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict at work Date: 16 Jul 03 - 09:03 AM Thanks so much, link fairy Noreen!! (and for the kind words Sandra too!) |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 16 Jul 03 - 08:41 AM Congratulations, celtaddict - they are magnificant |

Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict at work Date: 15 Jul 03 - 10:33 PM Guest Jerry, haven't seen your name here; did you note pics are in two places, a site from BillD (clicky at start of thread) and Mudcat Photos, Events, Mystic Seaport Festival? (Start at Quicklinks, top of page, Member Photos & Info.) Wish I could get the blue clickymaker to work, I would put both here. (Maybe Joe Clone will take pity on this computer novice.) |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Nancy King Date: 15 Jul 03 - 10:16 PM Fabulous new pix, Celtaddict! Well done! And thanks again... Nancy |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 15 Jul 03 - 10:05 PM Bill, A lovely revisit to a fine festival. Thanks for the effort. I don't know if you intended it, but you've created a visual pun, of sorts, with the picture titled "MysticWhaler". Your picture is of the Charles W. Morgan, which is indeed the Mystic whaler. However, the schooner that was tied up by the main concert stage, which was a dorm for performers and volunteers, is named the Mystic Whaler. Well done! Jerry |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict at work Date: 15 Jul 03 - 08:59 PM New ones up; thanks again to Pene Azul. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 14 Jul 03 - 10:06 AM Okay, you may regret encouraging this sort of thing, but for you Danny Spooner fans and those who like being homesick for Mystic, I just sent off a few more. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 14 Jul 03 - 07:53 AM Thanks, Bill. Those of us who are close enough to get to Geoff Kaufman's gigs (not enough for me!) or sit near her at SMF (not that she gets to as much music as I know she would like to) know Meg has a wonderful voice and provides beautiful harmonies; a room with Meg in it and Geoff singing "Grey Funnel Line" or "Wild Mountain Thyme" is a happy room indeed. Nancy Mattila had the good sense to call her up to the stage to join her in the final concert. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 13 Jul 03 - 11:15 PM Celtaddict--check PMs... |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Naemanson Date: 13 Jul 03 - 09:46 PM Wow! Nice pictures. Every time I check this thread I get a pang of homesickness. And yet I have to look because I hope there are more pictures to be seen. It is so nice to see old friends having such a good time. And I wish I could have been there to hear Meg sing. In all the years of going to the festival I don't think I've ever heard her sing. Someone please tell her from me that I want to hear her next time I am in Mystic. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 13 Jul 03 - 09:16 PM Bill, do you have a way I could contact before he goes back? Don't be put off by the tech, you do computer things for which I have no clue; we have met, I am within less than a decade of your own age. I think we all go through life on a "need-to-know" basis. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 13 Jul 03 - 05:22 PM Thanks for the kind words; I will continue to send off pictures as long as anyone even hints they will look. I did promise Danny I would be sending the ones I like to him, and will forward the big (printable) files of any he likes. I am just hoping I can manage to catch him again this trip! |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 13 Jul 03 - 03:22 PM We are in 'regular' contact with Danny during his stay, and are making him a CD of all the shots we can find from this trip..(I have several I didn't post)... I love the freedom that digital imaging brings...I would NEVER have spent $50-60 on film and processing for Mystic, much less gone thru what it takes to scan each print (or slide!!)...wish I'd been born 30 years later..(sort of_ |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 13 Jul 03 - 09:02 AM I sent this thread to Danny some time back. His wife answered that she would pass it on when he got back. Danny appeared at my folk club last Feb when we always have a night of unaccompanied singing & would be apearing next Feb if the Festival on the same weekend hadn't booked him! They wanted him this year but I got in first, & I've since booked him for 2005. If anyone would like to contact him, here's his website - www.dannyspooner.com sandra |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Noreen Date: 12 Jul 03 - 07:19 PM You certainly do know how to take shots, Celtaddict- they are beautiful. Danny Spooner might like some of those for publicity shots- they certainly capture him to a 't'. Anyone in touch with him? |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Wotcha Date: 12 Jul 03 - 01:43 PM The shots of the ships are simply wonderful. They are now screen savers for my computer/confuser in my new office near Stuttgart, Germany ... Great memories. Thanks. Cheers/Tschuess, Brian |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 11 Jul 03 - 03:52 PM oh, very nice..some neat 'artsy' ones, too! I guess I am more a documenter....we make a good team..*grin*...thanks! |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: karen k Date: 11 Jul 03 - 12:03 AM Wonderful new pictures!!! Thanks. Wish there were more. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 10 Jul 03 - 10:32 PM Next lot of photos posted, including one of Jon Campbell, from 2001. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 10 Jul 03 - 08:28 PM Great pictures, Celtaddict! Thanks! Nancy |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Celtaddict Date: 10 Jul 03 - 05:02 PM If Don (or any of you lot that have provided me so much enjoyment over the years) wants a print, let me know and I will be glad to send on the full-size file rather than the 72 dpi; the higher resolution makes for a better quality print. More coming. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Marc Date: 10 Jul 03 - 12:09 AM Those are Great. Thank you Bill. I'm going to make a copy of that last shot of Don and Give it to him as he doesn't do the internet. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 09 Jul 03 - 08:24 PM Thanks, and thanks for the clicky too. I know how to take shots; Pene Azul knows how to do everything. More to follow in next few days. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 09 Jul 03 - 07:12 PM well! That worked just fine! here's a clicky thing nice portraits! and those POOR wannabe pirates!..*grin* |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 09 Jul 03 - 12:37 PM Refresh. Photos sent, more to follow. Marc, you have to see. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict (cookie still won't reinstall!) Date: 08 Jul 03 - 10:52 PM I just sent off a few pictures to Pene Azul to post, I know not where or how, including a good shot of the infamous "You Can't Be a Pirate with All of Your Parts" enactment. If this works, I have some others to share too. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: open mike Date: 08 Jul 03 - 09:42 PM glad to see the gray's ale is 5 cents a glass... they must get a good crowd at that rate! |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 08 Jul 03 - 08:42 PM well, Karen...you were in last years pics, and maybe you'll be in next years, too! I know you walked too far, but you DID do it. *smile*...next year, you get a ride both ways to supper! |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: karen k Date: 08 Jul 03 - 01:42 AM Great pictures, Bill. I'm glad I wasn't in any of them, though! Wish I could have made it back on Sunday but I did too much walking on Sat. and the old legs just couldn't do another day at Mystic. It was a great day on Sat. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Jul 03 - 01:07 AM Hey, MMario, I happen to know that we're the same age. I'm glad to observe that I have a bit less gray than you do, but neither of us has anything to worry about for a while yet. :) SRS |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Bill D Date: 07 Jul 03 - 09:09 PM yer welcome, Dan...you and Bonnie were welcome additions to the weekend... Noreen..we sure are looking forward to you all being here...and we can compare stories on Mystic! Danny Spooner has been in & out of Wash DC area for the last several weeks---we sang with him at a party on the 4th of July, and he will be doing a house concert at my house the 31st of July...then he will be at vocal week at Augusta Heritage (my wife, Ferrara, is going also)...and he is at several other places all this month. He is cramming a lot into his first USA trip! |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST Date: 07 Jul 03 - 08:46 PM Thanks for the pics Bill. All the best, Liam's Brother |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Noreen Date: 07 Jul 03 - 08:36 PM Great pics thanks, Bill! Mystic is one of the places I'll be singing with Shellbacks in October, and it looks absolutely wonderful (won't get a MMario suntan in October...) I've met Danny Spooner when he was over at the Mersey Shanty festival last year, and I spied Bob Walser in one of the crowd pics- he was over here for the National this year. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 07 Jul 03 - 07:52 PM True, Robbie and Marc, and also Geoff Kaufman, do Jon both homage and justice. I pestered Geoff for years (literally) to learn "Restless Waters" and he says it will be the title track of his next solo CD. And, Charley, I will continue to disagree, most civilly, as I do not hear the lasts verse of "The Mary Galately" as cynical at all, and in fact the idea, totally consistent with Jon's propensity for the play on words, of her being at last a sleek silver cutter choked me up a bit the first time I heard it. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Charley Noble Date: 07 Jul 03 - 08:59 AM Marc B. and Robbie O'Connell are also fans of Jon Campbell. Let's not forget Jon's "Frederick's of Galilee," his classic song about "appropriate apparel" for those "knotty and nautically" inclined. Yes, Jon, occasionally does a more serious song. And sometimes I'm even "unwarped" one of his songs such as "The Mary" so that it's straight nostalgia for an old coastal tanker. So maybe this should all be pulled togther into a new JON CAMPBELL REDISCOVERED thread. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Dani Date: 07 Jul 03 - 08:08 AM Well, you'd think I'd know by now to search here before I ask. Will do. Also found a website for his stuff. It's good to have a little info before deciding to buy a cd. Thank you! Dani |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 06 Jul 03 - 08:54 PM Meanwhile, if you type "Jon Campbell" into the Mudcat search box you will find lyrics to "Winnebacome, Winnebago" in the DT and Jon turns up on a variety of threads, with lyrics to several songs. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 06 Jul 03 - 08:50 PM Charley Noble and I seem to be the major Campbellophiles here. Sure. New thread coming up when I am home from work. He has one CD out, "Keep On Fishin'" and it is an indy. There are several cassettes, most I believe out of publication. Tommy Makem recorded "Tanqueray Martini-O" (the yachtsmen's shanty). I will also in the spirit of endless musical crossfertilization or plugging, as you will, post how to get the CD from the man. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Dani Date: 06 Jul 03 - 08:40 PM Any chance of sharing some lyrics? I've never heard of Jon Campbell. Dani |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 06 Jul 03 - 08:10 PM I will keep telling everyone who will listen that Jon Campbell is a brilliant songwriter and that, while his off the wall humorous songs are incredible, he also has written some wonderful more serious ones, which should be heard much more!! (One day he will probably feel a bit like Dave Mallett: Dave has written magnificent songs, and the one he is most known for is "The Garden Song" which is quite singable but an inadequate legacy. Jon has written songs with fantastically clever lyrics and also some marvelously poignant ones, and it would be a shame to be remembered only for "Tanqueray Martini-o" no matter how much it is enjoyed.) Plan to add photos to Bill D's tomorrow, assuming I get home. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Jul 03 - 05:54 PM Jon Campbell was at the Festival, and there should be a future workshop focused on his songs. I'm not sure what it should be called other than "The Warped Songs of Jon Campbell." Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST Date: 06 Jul 03 - 04:22 PM Is the tall darkhaired dancer in the far right of the photo possibly Jon Campbell? I never saw him there though he was certainly quoted. It was observed as well that in a few more years we may be hearing a workshop of his songs. What august company, joining Stan Rogers, Cyril Tawney, Harry Robertson. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: Marc Date: 06 Jul 03 - 02:17 PM Yours is the correct spelling celtaddict, I knew it didn't look right when I typed it. I was just kidding Bill. In all fairness, I'm actually in one of the Bill Stephens shots, I'm standing behind him talking with Skip Healy. |
Subject: RE: Photos from Mystic Seaport From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 06 Jul 03 - 02:06 PM I am still at work so have not had a chance to try. (My work is wonderful but you do not want my hours.) Thank you for the offer. I tried to e-mail just a note to Pene Azul but have had no response yet. |
