Subject: Hello voyager, from CarolC From: CarolC Date: 04 Jul 03 - 01:24 AM I just found out that the family my son has been staying with for his summer break has at least one Mudcatter in residence. What a small world. Here's the musical part of this post: what Mudcat gatherings in the DC area or under the auspices of the FSGW have you attended in the last couple of years? Maybe I've met you and don't know it. My husband, Jack the Sailor (Rob), who I met here in the Mudcat, and I were at the FSGW Getaway at Camp Ramblewood last fall (a week after we got married), and I was at the Getaway the fall before that. JtS and I attended Jed Marum's house concert at the O'Malley's, and we were at Fortunato's jam session/song circle for a little while the next day. I'd link to Bill D's pictures of us at the O'Malley's but it looks like his site is being worked on. This is very interesting. |

Subject: RE: Hello voyager From: voyager Date: 04 Jul 03 - 12:27 PM Carolyn - Greetings! I just sent a note the "Jack the Sailor" and then found your posting while browsing MUDCAT. Here's the deal - 1. I'm the musician on the Left Side of the photo holding guitar case here - http://www.mudcat.org/photos/events.cfm Click on FSGW-Get-Away, October 8-11, 1999 2. I have been a Mudcatter for 5+ years, and a peripheral member of FSGW for 10+ years. Love this music. 3. The last Getaway I attended was at Ramblewood perhaps 3 years back. Got to know Fortunato a bit, played in a country/blues session with Chance and O'Malley too. 4. It is a pleasure having IAN stay with us this summer and I look forward to many more chats with his Mudcat family. 5. BTW - I am a singer/songwriter with several posts to MUDCAT and a lifelong amateur musical historian. Regards voyager FSGW Ghetto |

Subject: RE: Hello voyager From: CarolC Date: 04 Jul 03 - 01:13 PM This is very cool. Here's JtS, Ian, and me at the wedding last October: Click Other Mudcatters at the wedding were Bill Day, Rita Ferrara, Jande, Malveka, and Celtic Soul (my sister). JtS is a singer/songwriter, and he plays guitar. Stan Rogers is one of his musical heros (JtS is from Atlantic Canada). He particularly likes to write song parodies, and there are a few of his here in the Mudcat. I play the accordion, mostly Finnish trad, but also English, Scottish, Irish, French, US, and Canadian trad, as well as some recent compositions in the trad idiom. Ian says he's really enjoyed staying with you guys this summer. It's fun for me, too, now that I know he's been staying with a Mudcat family. |
