Recently, I was telling a female friend about a song I heard many years ago in a Liverpool folkclub. It was sung by a group of females, and was a humorous condemnation of insulting remarks aimed at women by a certain type of male. The song contained the line " Look at the arse on that!". Does anyone out there know all the words? And who wrote it?

It sounds like something the Ranting Sleazos sang.

Thanks for the replies. And Ranting Sleazos ring a bell, so I'm betting it was them that I heard sing * Look at ...* way back when.

I was a Ranting Sleazo more years ago than I care to remember and the song you are talking about was by a woman writer from the North -East called Pat Garrat.(She wrote a song called Kick the Cat which was quite well known) The first line was "Aw Pet Hinny come an' sit down here" We are from Merseyside and can't do a Geordie accent so we changed the words (without permission) to "E are darlin' etc..."
"Look at the arse on that" was in our version and in the original, so its not all our fault. I hope this helps.

Hi Pat!!!   I have been wondering what happened to you and the group! You might remember that we did an interview for my radio show when you were visiting the NYC area.   It was fun! I still play the LP on the show! Please e-mail at wfdutraditions@aol.com when you have a chance!

Hi Pat, I was living on Merseyside when you were singing together - I'll always remember the stop over in services on the M62? en route to a festival when Fred Jordan referred to you all as "girlies" :)
p.s. still have your record!
Good to hear from you

There will be those who remember the 1970´s revue "Oh!Calcutta" which ran for ages at some London Theatre or other. Basically it was a series of jokes told by naked people. Its story is here: Oh! Calcutta

The connection? Well the title "Oh! Calcutta" came from the french phrase "O! Quel cul t´as" roughly translated, "What a lovely arse you have!!"

I´ll get mi coat.
