Subject: RE: A cappella sess - Stony Stratford, UK From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Jul 03 - 09:57 AM Cantillating together is only legal if you're all consenting adults. |
Subject: RE: A cappella sess - Stony Stratford, UK From: Steve Parkes Date: 11 Jul 03 - 09:52 AM I've told her, Dave, but you know women -- she won't be told! An "a cappela session" would be a lot of musicians stitting around in chapel-like silence (what a lovely thought!); "singaround session" is now officially an oxymoron. PP is welcome to join us as long as he/she leaves his/her pipes outside: it's stricly a non-smoking affair. As for solitary vices: we encourage mutuality as far as possible, cantillating together with glee (or round or catch) in the candle-lit gloom. Steve |
Subject: RE: A cappella sess - Stony Stratford, UK From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Jul 03 - 09:33 AM Haven't you read this thread in which Pied Piper warns us that the word "Session" is only to be used for activities in which large numbers of instrumentalists all play at the same time (usually Irish tunes at ridiculously fast tempi). Therefore "A Capella Session" is a complete contradiction of terms. Please change the description at once, or I will inform PP and you will be raided be the "Session Police" who will insist on playing large numbers of Melodeons, Fiddles, Whistles, Bodhrans etc to make sure that egotistical singers get no chance to engage in their disgusting solitary vices. |
Subject: RE: A cappella sess - Stony Stratford, UK From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Jul 03 - 05:48 AM "if it was in Milton Keynes proper it would be "unaccompanied", bt seeing as it's in Snooty Stratford, it's "a cappella". " I'd have thought it'd work the other way round. |

Subject: RE: A cappella sess - Stony Stratford, UK From: Steve Parkes Date: 10 Jul 03 - 11:54 AM Kevin, if it was in Milton Keynes proper it would be "unaccompanied", bt seeing as it's in Snooty Stratford, it's "a cappella". Don't know if we should call it a "session" though! Steve |
Subject: RE: A cappella sess - Stony Stratford, UK From: Julie B Date: 10 Jul 03 - 07:06 AM Hiya Hilary, Yes, this replaces the monthly sing we used to have at The Crown, which has now been refurbished and gone up-market - more of a wine bar now. We had a good first night at the Fox & Hounds. The room we have is separate from the rest of the pub, is no smoking, and we have no juke box/piped music to contend with - heaven!!!! Julie B |
