Forget all the stuff about Dylan & McCartney nicking small bits of melody or verse. What about the blatant open rip off of Spirit's "Fresh Garbage" that is the soundtrack to Charlies Angels II and is being played every hour or so on the radio and MTV!!! I think I read somewhere that Beck wrote it! Well I used to repect that man. I hope Jay Ferguson sues him for all he's got.

Yeah - I just heard it on the radio - it's nothing short of criminal. These same rich, fat uncreative thieves, whinge when we download their trash without paying from the internet!

I would swear that they even sampled the record - it sounds like the same electric piano from Spirit. Maybe they figured no one would notice. Maybe there needs to be a new kind of credit - "Words and music by X - but ripped off of a record by Y "

Yes it definitely samples the original - I played it to my 12 year old daughter and told her it was a 35 year old song - she couldn't believe it!

Here is a quote from the LA Times:

There's a third songwriter listed — Spirit's Jay Ferguson, who composed the tune's bedrock motif in 1967 as a stab at an Afro-Cuban riff.

"I love the record," he says. "Orbit and Beck, I consider them pop subversives, which I really appreciate, and they've made a summer anthem that's very hip and has some darkness and has a lot of fresh sound to it.

"To see what was basically record one in my life, the first thing I ever recorded, come back in such a contemporary fashion is great."

Well it seems as though Jay did get credit after all.

But I still think these people are crap!
