Subject: Tech: ZoneAlarm query From: Ed. Date: 09 Jul 03 - 03:09 PM Recently, I've had to reinstall ZoneAlarm. That's fine, and apart from the slight irritation of having to reinform all my programs of what 'internet rights' they have I've had no problems. That is apart from Microsoft Outlook. Even though it's in my 'allowed' list, after any reboot, I'm told that it is a new program that wants to connect to the net for the first time. I say yes it can, tick the 'remember this answer' box and it works fine until the next reboot. I don't have this with any other program, and whilst it's no major problem, it's a little annoying. Has anyone else had this happen, or have any idea why it has? I'm puzzled Ed |

Subject: RE: Tech: ZoneAlarm query From: GUEST Date: 09 Jul 03 - 04:11 PM It is a "safety-valve" you do not want to remove.
Many "Trojan" type hacks will want to caputure information and then relay it back through Outlook Express - or a virus may attempt to replicate itself by forwarding through your address-book.
It is one of the reasons you should have installed ZA, smile, and be happy that it is working. |

Subject: RE: Tech: ZoneAlarm query From: Mr Red Date: 09 Jul 03 - 04:50 PM Why the re-install? Do you know the whole history. Did elect to or were you forced to. My ZoneAlarm allows distributed COM services to access the web and that seems to me to be an open door. If I disallowed it it would be unworkable. The only thing it does for me is refuse the constant pings. Norton warns me of vruses so it is not all bad. |
