Subject: RE: Tune Req: Gentle Annie (Tommy Makem) From: GUEST,Iona Date: 12 Jan 12 - 01:53 AM Wasn't Tommy a musical genius anyway. ;) I love his songs--always so fresh and creative, with a lot of 'homey' subjects. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Gentle Annie (Tommy Makem) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 19 Dec 11 - 08:34 PM Don't fast forward the Youtube video: I should still watch the WHOLE thing, as Tommy does a wonderful recitation of Patrick Kavanagh's poem "On Raglan Road" before he goes into the "Gentle Annie" song. |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: GENTLE ANNIE (Tommy Makem) From: GUEST,999 Date: 11 Sep 11 - 11:33 AM Tommy sings it here on Youtube. G]Fair and lovely Annie, Your[C] gentle ways have[G] won me. You bring peace and joy and[Em] laughter every[D]where. Where you[G] go the sunshine follows, You're a[D] breath of spring in [G]winter And my heart and soul are[D] always in your[G] care. [G]Gentle Annie,[Em] Gentle[G] Annie, And my heart and soul Are[D] always in your[G] care. When you touch me with your fingers, My cares and worries vanish Like the morning dew before the rising sun, When your eyes tell me you love me, Then my soul is filled with wonder And my love for you will live when life is done. Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, And my love for you Will live when life is done. You're the flower among the flowers, You're the birdsong in the morning, You're the laughter of the children at their play. You're my hope and joy and wisdom, You're my reason just for living, You're my treasure, You're my very night and day. Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, You're my treasure, You're my very night and day. When the mountains all come tumbling And the earth has stopped its turning, When the winds don't blow and stars refuse to shine, When the moon has left the heavens, And the seven seas are empty, I will still have Gentle Annie on my mind. Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, I will still have Gentle Annie on my mind. |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: GUEST Date: 11 Sep 11 - 11:18 AM Hi If anyone got that sheet music to Gentle Annie, I am really interested. My wife (Annie) is 50 year old in a few weeks and I am trying to larn this song. Maurice |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: Tiger Date: 31 Jul 03 - 01:13 PM You ARE lucky, indeed. I've often provided songs for weddings, and it's amazing how many so-called pianists or accompanists just don't have a clue as to how to proceed. Unless they have a full-blown score, they're totally adrift. Wouldn't you think a professional musician, given the melody and the key, could take it from there? |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: GUEST,Keith Date: 29 Jul 03 - 06:52 PM Thank you all for your help. I was able to track the book down and get a copy of the music. I have brought it to our pianist and explained that it is a melody. I gave him a copy of the song on CD and he is sure he will be able to write a background piece to match. We are going to meet in a week to listen to it. Again thank you all so much. The "lucky" groom |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: pattyClink Date: 17 Jul 03 - 09:33 AM Right, that's it!. Keith, that book has melody line and chords only, not a full accompaniment for piano or organ. Be very sure your player can work from that. (NEVER ASSUME when it comes to anything for The Big Day!) If not, do you have lead time for somebody skilled to write out an arrangement, or can a guitarist do the backing, chords would be plenty for that. Best wishes in any case-- |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 17 Jul 03 - 07:05 AM The melody and words are in "The Songs of Tommy Makem" published in 1988 by Tinwhistle Music. I'm not sure if the company exixt anymore, but I did find the book available here. |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: pattyClink Date: 16 Jul 03 - 04:23 PM Okay, well I'm confused, it's "Red Biddy" and the online site indeed doesn't seem to carry the songbook. (It's NOT the big "Clancy Bros & T.M." book that's listed all over the web, it's a smaller one). I'll see if I can get you a citation tonight, maybe with the real title you'll be able to track it down. And if push comes to shove you can PM me with an address and I'll send you a photocopy. |
Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: pattyClink Date: 16 Jul 03 - 04:14 PM Actually that one has been published in a book of his compositions, might be available through his company, I think it's called Red Hen. |

Subject: RE: Sheet music for Tommy Makem's Gentle Ann From: katlaughing Date: 13 Jul 03 - 01:04 AM If you have, or can get, a midi of it, you can download MidiNotate and run it through. It prints out the music instantly and is pretty simple to use. Inoticed on Makem's site, someone asked where they could buy sheet music and the answer was they were pretty much on their own. It was also nice to see a link to Mudcat for lyrics! Good luck, someone around here will probably be able to help. kat |

In case you are wondering which song the first verse is Fair and lovely Annie, your gentle ways have won me. You bring peace and joy and laughter everywhere. Where you go the sunshine follows, you're a breath of spring in winter And my heart and soul are always in your care. Gentle Annie, Gentle Annie, and my heart and soul are always in your care. I am hoping to have this song sung at my wedding and would love it if anyone knew where I could find the sheet music. |
