I took my daughter up today to meet her new nephew, and we spent quite a bit of quality time with him. He looked at us as if to say "Who are you and what sort of lifetime am I in for this time around?" Funny thing was, we both thought that was what he was thinking when we compared notes later.

I am now pretty sure his eyes are brown, and I sang "Oh bring me back my brown eyed boy" to him - his first song, and certainly not his last.

There are more photos up on the site I linked to on 17 July 9.45am, at-home ones including a photo of their cats, Bella (black) and Casper (white), which doesn't really seem to belong there - oh well.....

I'm getting the feeling this website might just keep on growing!

I sent the photos to Pene Azul to put in the Events section, but they are not all there - 5 up and 6 to come. Hopefully that will be fixed soon. My link on 17 July 9.45am will take you straight to the site, with all 11 photos, and others as George adds more.

My daughter Sam who has not seen Max yet is understandably anxious to visit, so I hope that can happen soon. Maybe Sunday?

Yes, Daylia, it's an amazing feeling, to see what has come from what I started 30 years ago. There's nothing quite like it - makes me think about my place in the circle of life, and that sort of thing.

He is my grandson, but maybe in some small way I can share Max with you by sharing my joy and the pictures - we are after all, all connected.

I think I might have to get George a round tuit, so he will put some pictures up. I can't do it myself, as my camera is one of those steam-driven ones with film and I don't have a scanner. So it's all up to him.

Back home now - George says they want some time at home by themselves for at least a week, so they can make their mistakes in private.

I can understand that. I remember when I was a new mother, having lots of well meaning people trying to give me advice on when to feed the baby, or put him to bed, or burp him, or whatever - all unsolicited and all conflicting. It doesn't go down very well when you are already tired and emotional, and feeling your way into motherhood.

However, in a day or two I'll be jogging George's memory about posting some pictures, if his memory needs jogging.

What's even more amazing, to me anyway, is that they are coming home from the hospital today, in a couple of hours - so not much more than 24 hours from the time of the birth. She will have regular visits from midwives.

Now in my day (she said, practising to sound granny-like and wearing Liz the Squeak's borrowed Mother Bates grey wig) it was more like 4 or 5 days.

Also they have the baby right next to them in the hospital, which I can see is good for bonding, but I remember being glad that I had those first few days to recover and be looked after. That's just my feeling about it - I guess it depends on the person. It also depends on how supportive your husband is. I'm sure George will do well in that department. He is taking a month off work for a start. Now my experience was somewhat different - but that's another story.

Bastille Day and Woody Guthrie's birthday, eh? Which reminds me - I must let my brother in Paris know he is a great-uncle (is that what you call it?) How appropriate that the next night at the Loaded Dog on the 26th is a Woody Guthrie night!

I see you got back, MMario. I showed George this thread and the other one last night. He was amazed at the interest shown. I've learned over the last few years what a precious thing the folk community is, and that includes the virtual one here on Mudcat. Thanks, guys. It means a lot to me.

It seemed bad enough when my friends started having babies - now they have grandkids!

At least us Aunties & Grandmothers can hand them back (& don't have to change their nappies as was pointed out above by a wise soul). I don't know if I'll get a chance to have a nurse of the new little lad, but I do know how to hold babies (with head suported & if it makes a noise or does something in it's nappy, hand it straight back!!)

I guess now I'll be listening to lots of bragging! And seeing lots of pics. I hope Jenny bought the film on her way north, tho I suppose the hospital shop would have film for forgetful folks.

I'm up here at George's now, and I've visited with Max. He was 7 lb 14 oz and about 20 inches. He has lots of black hair and of course he's a real cutie.

The hospital actually let George and Michelle go out for dinner tonight! Their last chance for a while, probably.

There have been some photos taken which George says he is going to put on a website. As soon as there are some I will post a link.

After all the waiting, I'm finally a grandma! I just got a text message from George saying:

"Maxwell Alexander Carter born 9.38. All three are well"

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I like the "all three" bit. I imagine George was in quite a state, too! The induction must have made it happen quite quickly. I didn't expect action till later today. I guess Max was finally ready.

I decided to start a new thread as well as adding to the old one, because it has been around a while, After all the "false alarms" when it got bumped up the top, some people might not bother to look yet again.

I'm going up to Gosford now, but I will try to check these threads from George's computer, and give you more info as a GUEST as soon as I know more.
