I booked Dave Paskett for a folk club in cheltehan in 1979, He was brilliant, both musically and very funny. His record was called 'I still dream about your smile' and it was published by 'thinks records' number: thinks 1.It included the song 'I could not take my eyes off her' I think his agent at the time was Steve Hutt. On the record he is acompanied by Chris Newman, Mike Evans, Andy Hammond and Min Newman.

I regularly play and sing "could not take my eyes off her".Great song from a nice bloke from the 70s/80s.
It always seemed incomplete and I added another verse.As follows;
And as the years roll slowly by,and memeories start to fade,
I caught a glimpse just one more time of my oft remembered maid,
She passed by oh so fleetingly,no chance to ask her name,
And still,I could not take my eyes off her.

I always of course credit the song to Dave Paskett.

Anybody know what happened to Gordon Wells? Has anybody got a copy of the tape he made many years ago - my partner has just lost it! It was brilliant: 'Keeping up with Jones', 'No more gypsies around here', 'The best man', 'She's no iron maiden' etc. Phil McFadden knew him - Phil, have you a copy? I'm trying to contact you by phone.

Paul recorded the song on his first or second album I believe. Some time ago he made the album available for charity. You can probably find it easily enough by following links through from Phil Beer's web sites.

Dave Paskett is alive and well. He gave up music to continue his other career as an artist. He lived in Hong Kong for several years and to this day teaches art and paints. He turned up at a Downes & Beer re-union the year before last and we played 'I could not take my eyes' together. Paul Downes still regularly features the song in his set. A great writer and performer and good chap.

If anyone's interested, I promoted a number of gigs in Bristol, UK in the 1980s featuring Dave Paskett. Great songwriter and thoroughly nice bloke. He did a fantastic number called The Sipping Forecast, a version of the shipping forecast but all about drinking - really funny.I Could Not Take My Eyes Off Her is a sublime song, and I've been searching for a copy of it by someone, or at least the lyrics. I hope to sing it to my fiancee at our wedding next year! Anyone help?

This is indeed the same man! I made enquires about Dave several years ago and heard he had given up singing for his present pursuit - and very good is he at it too!

I've just stepped out of the time machine for this -heard a version of the song done by a bloke with a guitar about 25 years ago in a garden in Railway St, Splott. Some people there said he'd written it, but Gordon Wells told me that it was more of a ... homage? I've only just found it again as most of a recording on youtube, after many years looking for it. I can't find your lyric post, John?

Like Leadfingers I remember Dave Paskett from the seventies (but Leads and I were haunting the same area then - How are you you old bugger?). I have similar memories of DP. Good songs, good performer, and if I'm not mistaken, the slowest bloody driver I've ever been stuck behind! Dambed nice fella though, so I'll forgive him one minor flaw.

I haven't heard anything about him for years until now, but "I could not take my eyes off her" does occasionally rattle round in my head, despite the fact that I only remember snippets of it. Thanks for posting the lyrics, I can fill in the blanks now.

Dave Paskett came into prominence in the early seventies as a singer/songwriter and entertainer,also all round good egg. He was indeed a member of Pigsty Hill in its later days.I last saw him at Exeter University Summer Ball in seventy eight and have only excellent memories of him and his abilities.

The version I do isn't a parody (at least not as far as I am aware !! Any humour will be related to my performance ;-)

The first verse of the song I do is:

You know the way it is
When you are dancing in a crowd
Trying to make your voices heard
And the music's way too loud

I can post the rest of the lyric when I have a little more time. I do change some of the words - and the guitar arrangement is certainly different - from the Raglan version.

I have heard 'I could not take my eyes off her' - a lovely song which I should know about but can't find in the Forum or database. BUT I've also heard a very funny parody of it. Could that be the Dave Paskett one?

I have been singing a song called "I couldn't take my eyes off her" for a while now and keep getting asked about the writer, Dave Paskett. I've never come across his name connected with any other song, and nobody I know has heard of him. Anybody on this forum have any info?

I "acquired" the song from a CD by "Raglan", which I bought from two members of Raglan - Huw Chidgey and (I think) Nic Durham - when they called into the Fleetwood Folk Club. This was my one and only visit to this club, since a business trip had taken me into the area. All a mix of coincidences for which I am grateful. "Couldn't take my eyes" always goes down well wherever I sing it.
