Subject: Lyr Req: Jacques Brel song From: michaelr Date: 15 Jul 03 - 08:20 PM The current Jacques Brel threads brought back some long-slumbering memories: Four score and seven years ago (actually, it was around 1975), when I was known to indulge occasionally in mind-altering substances, my buddy and I (who used to play guitars and sing Donovan and Dylan songs together) met a trio of charming young French women who sang les chansons. I was blazing on acid (which had caused me to forget my guitar at home) and could only sit there dumbstruck while they sang, in glorious three-part harmony, a JB song called, I believe, "Ballade au Novembre". It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard! I don't really know any French, but my hazy memory suggests the first line may have been something like "qu'u me laisse a mes souvenirs". I would be most grateful if someone could provide the lyrics and, if possible, a translation. Cheers, Michael |
