Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Mrs.Duck Date: 23 Jul 03 - 02:49 PM Well in and amongst all the confusion I already recorded the concert when it was on BBC 4 and thought it was brilliant. My daughter Maddie (9) is a big fan too and I can only imagine the faces of the teachers when she was asked last year what she got for her birthday and replied 'Angels and Cigarettes'! So keep on with the "old guff" ;¬) we enjoy it! Jane |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 23 Jul 03 - 01:16 PM Ok Eliza.. Have found the session...No Cutting present...! It must have been one of his other numerous appearances, he'll play with anyone, if there is a fee involved! See Ya Friday R x PS...Have got a couple of pressies for you. |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: GUEST,jennifer Date: 21 Jul 03 - 04:28 PM Getting Squeezy Spiers and Marmite Andy mixed up perhaps? One has bad taste in tank tops and the other bad taste in sandwiches but they're both cute anyway. Jennifer |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Noreen Date: 21 Jul 03 - 04:16 PM eliza, anything/anybody north of Watford confuses him terribly... |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 20 Jul 03 - 06:39 AM E.. Then, what the hell I'm I talking about???!! It must be the terrible vision of Mr K in a hideous shirt, and a pink gown having received his honorary doctorate that has addled my brain....! Will dig out the session, and confirm my stupidity. R x |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: GUEST,eliza C Date: 20 Jul 03 - 06:33 AM Ralphie, Is it still you? I never have played with Andy. I danced for him once, years ago, with Nancy...but he doesn't play the hurdy-gurdy as far as I know either... keep taking the tablets darlin x e |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 20 Jul 03 - 04:12 AM Eliza...Forgive my feeble brain cells, but, I still remember Mr C starting off one of your songs on the H-G at that Kershaw session...? Maybe senility has kicked in after all! And, yes, the crack about your material was firmly tongue in cheek. See you all on Friday!...Lurking in a tiny truck at the back of the Village Stage R xx PS...I'll bring a copy of Jim Eldon doing "Teenage Kicks" 10 miles out of Brid harbour....just in case you missed it! |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: okthen Date: 19 Jul 03 - 11:17 AM Jon, in answer to PAL/NTSC, no, when you record the DVD you should have the option in the software to record in either format but I think most TV's will play both systems these days, I have some region 1 dvd's and they play on my telly ok. In the meantime I've encountered a problem with Nerovision express which is supposed to record onto DVD, but it hangs after half an hour of transcoding, so it looks like the above offer is a bit academic at the mo' cheers bill |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: GUEST,Jon Date: 19 Jul 03 - 10:14 AM Sorry for the drift but reading this thread has brought up a curiosity question. Is DVD independant of PAL/NTSC or is it like video where you have to have the right format? As for the concert, I won tickets for that one - I couldn't go, tried to offer them for free here on Mudcat and got no takers! (It was very short notice). |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Willie-O Date: 19 Jul 03 - 10:01 AM I take it the horrible buzzing sound was the hurdy gurdy? Surprised it took him so long to get rid of it, just kill the h-g's channel! I heard a similar story concerning a Celtic band being mixed by a rock sound tech. The band's guitar player approached the guy halfway through the show and said, "sounds pretty good, but I can't hear the drones, you know, the low persistent notes on the bagpipes." Rocker responded "that's what that is? I've been trying to lose it for the last half an hour!" Eliza, you've got class. And y'know, it is a grand offer Okthen, but can you afford the potential response? Ms Carthy's CD's are available in North America, y'know. (Thanks though) W-O |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 19 Jul 03 - 08:16 AM E... Woops! does that mean that I can't record you? See you on Friday... Ralphie, (with a stupid smile!) PS...Nothing wrong with Mr Cutting...Should have taken up the Concertina though, melodeons will never catch on! |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: GUEST,eliza C Date: 19 Jul 03 - 08:06 AM Hi Ralphie, Eh? Man speak no English...not the same lineup, no, nor the same old guff neither-unless by "same old guff" one means traditional songs...(!) Anyway, I don't play with Andy Cutting, that's the other Yorkshoire girl. see you then mate, and you can explain yerself!!! x eliza |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: okthen Date: 18 Jul 03 - 06:54 PM I'll take the above as permission, and resume the offer, thanks Eliza. It's nearly midnight here so will pick up this thread in the morning, cheers bill |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: GUEST,Ralphie at work (as usual!) Date: 18 Jul 03 - 03:42 PM Ah Eliza... See you on Friday. Any chance of some new material, or is it still all that old stuff that you've been peddling about for the last few years???!!! Oh, and don't bother bringing that Cutting bloke, particularly if he insists on playing the Hurdy Gurdy! Seriously, is it the same line up that came to do Doctor Kershaw a couple of months ago (Have you seen the Pic?? a vision in pink!) No matter, It'll all become horribly clear on Friday. See Ya. Ralphie... (PS. Reminds me of a story concerning the Beeb and Blowzabella at Towersey many years ago, when, after a very protracted sound check, the beeb engineer excitingly announced that he'd had a problem with this "Horrible buzzing sound", but had worked out how to get rid of it!!) |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: GUEST,eliza C Date: 18 Jul 03 - 11:43 AM Sure, I don't mind if you are just sending them on. But you ain't seen me either if the BBC checks it out!!! :) x e |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 18 Jul 03 - 08:35 AM Bill...Thanks for being an old hippy !! Will get back after next weekend...(Plug time...I'll be doing the EC band live from the Village Stage at Womad next Friday eve on R3...be there, or be somewhere else!) R |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: okthen Date: 18 Jul 03 - 08:28 AM The last thing I want to do is contravene copyright, or annoy the artist concerned, so I shall wait a bit before I send any.I hadn't intended charging anything for them (it's the old hippie in me) but the response (in half an hour) is a little daunting. I am not withdrawing the offer totally, but shall review the situation in 10-15 days, unless I am told it's O.K. or not. cheers bill |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 18 Jul 03 - 08:14 AM Oh,and while I'm on....watch out for the BBC lawyers...Eliza might agree, but the tentacles of corporate lawyers may come and feel your collar !! Ralphie (You ain't seen me ....right!) |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Ralphie Date: 18 Jul 03 - 08:08 AM Hi Chaps... Will be seeing Ms C next weekend at Womad, and will ask....so, make lists, but probably best to hold on for a bit !! (Pretty sure that she won't mind, but you'll agree that it's best to check before the pressing plants start 'a grinding!!!) Regards Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: jacqui.c Date: 18 Jul 03 - 07:51 AM If you can get agreement from Eliza I would love a copy on DVD. Can you let me know the form please? Jacqui |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: Brían Date: 18 Jul 03 - 07:45 AM Eliza does contribute to the forum, so nickp has a point, regardless. That being said I did get a chance to see Eliza and her family on this side of th pond about a year ago and thet were fantastic! Brían |
Subject: RE: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: nickp Date: 18 Jul 03 - 07:31 AM Without wishing to be a killjoy here, having done similar things in the distant past, have you asked Eliza if that would be OK? |
Subject: Copy of Eliza Carthy concert From: okthen Date: 18 Jul 03 - 07:25 AM I managed to record the recent Eliza Carthy concert at the Union Chapel, and am able to put it on DVD, SVCD, or VCD if anyone would like a copy? I don't want to do 100's and am thinking more of the American mudcatters who get less chance to see the bonnie lass than we Brits. Cheers bill |
