I have video of Irish Music in America. On it Jack Clements sang part of a song I'd like to have lyrics to, part of the words: "...nothing compares to the fact that she is a gone girl, gone like a leaf in the wind, gone like a knock on the door, gone like yesterday and before..." Anybody know that song?"

GONE GIRL
Singer: Johnny Cash
Writer: "Cowboy" Jack Clement

She is deliciously tall and sort of a long girl
She is delightfully small and sort of a song girl
She freely admits to the world that she was a wrong girl
That's nothing compared to the fact that she is a gone girl.

Gone like the knock on the door
Gone with yesterday and before
Gone with the wind forever more.

She never laid claim to the fact that she was a strong girl
So why should I loudly proclaim she was a wrong girl
I'd rather think of her name as some sort of song girl
And think poetical things to think of my gone girl.

Gone like the knock on the door
Gone with yesterday and before
Gone with the wind forever more.

La la la la la la la la la la.

I've just begun to learn about Jack Clement, as a producer for Townes Van Zandt. Learned after that he was a writer, too.

In fact, found out, accidentally, that he wrote "Ballad of a Teenage Queen" for Johnny Cash.

Who can fill us in on some of the other things Clement has done?

Thanks...........Tiger

HI Ralph....Johnny and Jack used to ARGUE fervently about how to record some of Johnny's records.
Johnny used to tell about how he fought against using the VOICES on
BALLAD OF A TEENAGE QUEEN....
And later had to admit....THAT's what made the song.....

Another Jack Clement song is I Guess Things Happen That Way (Click Here), recorded with style by Emmylou Harris.
