Subject: The Pack at Warwick From: George Papavgeris Date: 29 Jul 03 - 05:18 PM I was very impressed with the Pack at Warwick. 11 youngsters letting fly on fiddles, concertinas, whistles, guitar, sax, horn/trumpet and Accordion (the last one by Mudcatter Sam Pirt). Their expertise and energy just made me jealous and wanting to be 20 again...Lovely varied material, excellent arrangements and delivery. I'll be following their progress as long as I'm around - THEY, and not the manufactured folk stars (like KR) are the hope of the future. And I think it's going to be a good one. Sam, please let us know about the progress of your Euro-gathering as well. |

Subject: RE: The Pack at Warwick From: Bassic Date: 29 Jul 03 - 08:19 PM EG, I think you are wrong, not about the pack as such, but KR, a fully time served apprentice of the Yorkshire folk scene and much more besides and NOT in my view manufactured, just professional and highly skilled. |

Subject: RE: The Pack at Warwick From: s&r Date: 30 Jul 03 - 03:40 AM There are two threads at the moment which praise Sam and the Pack and criticise Kate. I find this bizarre. Sam et al and Kate are charming and personable musicians of high levels of skill and enthusiasm. We know and love most of the young performers in the British folk scene: they mix, swap ideas, try out new instrument mixes, play together, and in our experience are rarely if ever critical or carping towards other musicians. We concur with Bassic; El Greko get your facts right - Kate has been manufactured only by twenty something years experience in the family Ceilidh band, many festivals and clubs.... Sam - all strength to you and the pack |
