Henry Lawson's "Do You Think That I Do Not Know" is in the DT here, and refers to the tune by Slim Dusty (as recorded by Martin Wyndham-Read, also by Priscilla Herdman). I can't get the midi to work, though.

This site has the tune by Chris Kempster.

as to the tune, I have only heard the Priscilla Herdman version...and the Mudcat midi does not seem to be working, maybe it is related to Max's current computer hassles.

Yeah, the Digital Tradition MIDIs aren't working, and Max and Jeff are working on a solution. In the meantime, you can find the tune at Yet Another Digital Tradition (or you can Download Your Own Copy of the Digital Tradition).
I'm glad you brought this up, Becky. I haven't heard this song for a while, and I forgot how powerful it was.

Just cogitating on Australian songs and love's travails, and responding to a request in the Outside Track thread.

In looking for that one, I was intrigued to see that some of the melodies that Priscilla Herdman used for Lawson "songs" on The Water Lily were her own (confessions of an LP taper, y'know). I've got to get me a copy of that on cd -- with notes. You can also add me to the list of folks who wish there were more copies of Chris Kempster's book of Lawson settings (his own and others').

Desert Dancer, if you're still wishing, you'll be happy to know that an expanded edition of (the late) Chris Kempster's book of Lawson settings came out a couple of years ago. I'm sure it was noted on one thread or another at this site.
