Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Noreen Date: 04 Sep 03 - 07:18 PM So that's where it went... |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Edain Date: 04 Sep 03 - 06:42 PM Folkie: I had no problem -getting- beer, the people I was camping with had masses of it :-) |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Mr Red Date: 04 Sep 03 - 05:11 PM Hi John Rouse - next time you enjoy the delights Ms (note the Ms now) Lemon has to offer ask her about the song............ or read Folkwrite next time it comes out - I may just have a million copies for me to dish out. |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 03 - 01:43 PM I too enjoyed Colvin Quarmby and "The House of the Setting Sun" is a great song, sends a chill down your spine. Fran |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Folkie Date: 04 Sep 03 - 07:53 AM I'm not surprised you didn't buy any beer, it was a very difficult commodity to buy during the first half of the weekend. I don't think I've ever been so sober at a festival! |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Noreen Date: 03 Sep 03 - 07:43 PM Thought I'd not seen him there, Nik! Last I saw of you at Bridgnorth you were strolling with a 4pt container of beer and a happy expression... |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Edain Date: 03 Sep 03 - 10:05 AM err... that last post was me, not Santa, forgot I was logged on on his machine and didn't log him out. |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Santa Date: 03 Sep 03 - 10:02 AM I have say that I enjoyed my first Bridgnorth and am amazed that I managed to get through the whole festival without actually buying any beer, so BIG thankyou to everyone who kept 'plying me with it and I guess it's my round next year! |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Liz the Squeak Date: 03 Sep 03 - 09:07 AM Personality cults are all very well, but you have to have a personality to start with, and I'm afraid some of the well known ones on the circuit at the moment have failed to realise this and are sadly lacking.... LTS |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: GUEST,John Rouse Date: 03 Sep 03 - 08:42 AM I really must learn to read this board before I go to festivals. Met Mr Red fairly early on, but only found out about Ms Lemon on the last day! A great festival spoiled IMHO by over loud sound systems. However I'm really glad we didn't walk out of Colvin Quarmbys set when the sound reached industrial injury level, as their rendition of "The House of the Setting Sun" was the high point of the weekend for me. Eddie Reader was a disappointement, I'm afraid that for me the personality cult doesn't seem to sit too easily with folk music. John |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: the lemonade lady Date: 02 Sep 03 - 07:34 AM I had a good w/e too. Sang loads of times in the folk clubs. And found a pupae stuck to my bag when I got home. It's a hawk moth. I hope it hatches! Sal |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: vectis Date: 28 Aug 03 - 07:59 PM I had a good time (what I can remember of it). The sing in the bar on Sunday night was the best. Pity it ended so early and abruptly though. |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: alanww Date: 26 Aug 03 - 07:43 PM Yes, Ali, weird! Sounds just like going across to Cookley, near Kidderminster, from the pretty north Cotswolds for a singing weekend and finding that you are on a coach going back to some of your local pubs where you are well known! I suppose that it just goes to prove that one should be thankful for one's lot! "For I am free to go abroad ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Abuwood Date: 26 Aug 03 - 05:07 PM Poor Snuffy - if you hadn't been posting just before you left you might have remembered your tent! We are still trying to revive ourselves after a hard working/walking weekend. Ian & Fi's session in the Black Horse has to be the best, with the singing train journey a close second. Strange things folk festivals, you take your tent and go away and then you catch the train home to sing in your local pubs....???? |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Snuffy Date: 22 Aug 03 - 11:34 AM I'm out of here in half an hour. See you all soon!" |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: GUEST,Brid widder @ a Beer festival Date: 22 Aug 03 - 11:18 AM Filling time @ Bewdley Beer festival waiting for Bridgnorth to start tonight...feeling quite mellow & ready for a little nap! I'm a Brignorth virgin so have no idea where to go for a singaround but so far everything looks wonderful.... admittedly through beer coloured glasses! Saw quite a few catters last weekend @ Whitby & hope to bump into a few more this weekend......I'll look out for you all... & sign your board Mrs Lemon(& no doubt welcome your lemonade) |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: the lemonade lady Date: 21 Aug 03 - 02:32 PM I've got me little signing-in board ready. See you there. Sal |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Snuffy Date: 21 Aug 03 - 09:28 AM Just follow the Shellbacks, Jude |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: My guru always said Date: 21 Aug 03 - 08:59 AM Am going up tomorrow, looking forward to seeing everyone! Hil ps. still off-line really... |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: The Shambles Date: 21 Aug 03 - 06:32 AM Any suggestions about pub(s) where singers gather gratefully received. Looking at the programme on the website - it would look as if there are gigs on in most of the pubs - leaving little room for all forms of informal music making to take place. Is this a correct impression? |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: GUEST,Guestspot Date: 21 Aug 03 - 04:30 AM Hello everybody.. Those of you who aren't going to Brignorth on Friday night may well care to visit the Unicorn folk club at The Lion, Edgmond nr Newport ( not far from Bridgo!).. There's a cracking new duo on called Brackenrigg...(Not that I'm half of it, of course!!!).Would be glad to see you.. Regards to all Spot |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: JudeL Date: 20 Aug 03 - 05:29 PM Am planning on driving up tomorrow. I haven't been to Bridgenorth before so hopefully I can find it without too many "detours". Any suggestions about pub(s) where singers gather gratefully received. |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Phot Date: 20 Aug 03 - 02:47 PM Yahoo! The big T roars! Now how the hell do I get a tent, camras, clothes and me on a single seater?? Damm, almost forgot the tankard! Wassail! Chris |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: treewind Date: 20 Aug 03 - 12:42 PM Folkie - yes, according to him and Sheila on the phone yesterday. I don't know about "after all" thought I gather there have been some mysterious pub and venue changes. You probably know more than I do... Anahata |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: the lemonade lady Date: 20 Aug 03 - 07:56 AM Beardy: I agree with you, Cloud Street are a wonderful couple. They were spotted by Radio 2 in Sidmouth. If anyone has not seen them yet, you really should try this w/e. Sal |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Folkie Date: 20 Aug 03 - 07:47 AM Is Flos going to be there at the Holly Head sessions after all then? |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: treewind Date: 19 Aug 03 - 12:03 PM OK - pur plans for Bridgnorth are now a little better fixed: Lunchtime session at the Holly Head Inn on Saturday, with Flos Headford and friends, so that'll be a English tunes session mostly, with maybe a few very silly songs... The rest of Saturday - what's up, what's worth seeing, who's going to be where? We'll be there until late Sunday afternoon. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Beardy Date: 19 Aug 03 - 07:59 AM If you're going on the Saturday night train to Kidderminster and prefer quiter sounds to the Shelbacks try the coach with Serious Kitchen & Cloudstreet. Met John & Nicole from Cloudstreet in the Tap & Spile at Whitby. Great voices and harmonies singing interesting songs. Stewart |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: the lemonade lady Date: 19 Aug 03 - 06:34 AM I shall be there also, as well...and I'm looking forward to seeing the photo's of the middle bar too. Will Tig and Badger be there? Maybe they will be at Whitby. I must get a bit of paper for you all to 'sign in' on. Ooh my grammar. Lemonade anyone? Mudcatters get it half price if you are wearing you badge. Sal |

Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: alanww Date: 12 Aug 03 - 07:46 AM Best singarounds? Just follow the Shellbacks ... "Come fill up your glasses and let us be merry ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Peter K Date: 12 Aug 03 - 07:37 AM Unfortunatly I have the same problem as Blowzabella. I have to get some work done this summer, and Bridgnorth is the price I am going to have to pay. |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: MC Fat Date: 12 Aug 03 - 04:26 AM Where's the best place for the sing a rounds ? |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Phot Date: 11 Aug 03 - 12:29 PM Looking forward to seeing lots of you there, if last year was anything to go by this year should be a belter, I'll be bringing cameras, and phots from the middle bar. I just hope I don't bin the bike on the way up this year!! Chris. |

Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: GUEST,Dan Abnormal Date: 11 Aug 03 - 07:22 AM Remember to take your rotten fruit to throw at Jim Moray on the Monday... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: Mr Happy Date: 11 Aug 03 - 06:46 AM look forward to meeting you treewind & other cats! |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: alanww Date: 11 Aug 03 - 06:39 AM I'll be there! Last year I remember drinking tea while sitting on some garden chairs outside the West Indian food stall between 12.30 and 2.30 am - at first discussing The Blackbird with Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman and shortly afterwards enjoying talking about shanties with Jim Mageean, while drinking copious amounts of spiced rum (or was it Irish whiskey?). Magic! Lets hope that there will be just as many good memories this year ... "As I rose up at break of day ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Bridgnorth FF From: treewind Date: 11 Aug 03 - 06:35 AM We'll be going straight there from Whitby, not doing much except hosting a lunchtime English tunes session, standing in for Flos who should have been doing it but has got booked somewhere else. Anahata |
