You know Skarpi,

I bet if you could get the money to fly to North America and figure out how to get around and how to partly feed yourself, I'll bet you even money you'll have a long, long list of homes in which to stay free of cherge. You're welcome in Orlando anytime. I've got a place you can stay for several days, no problem.

The real trick would be getting from city to city. I rode horseback across the center of Iceland, but that's pretty difficult to do in Canada & the U.S.

Our buses aren't the best way to go, but their the cheapest. Maybe you could get people to move you on to the next city with their car - driving a couple hundred miles isn't a big deal to most of us (of course I ride a motor scooter).

Take care

I got a day trip in Iceland on my holiday cruise, but I didn't think of Skarpi until I was on the sea; sorry, Skarpi. It seems very pleasant if you don't mind rain, and everything is expensive compared to the real world. We saw the whaling station, but it was disused at the time. I don't agree with killing whales because we don't really know how intelligent whales are; I can see how Norway and Iceland would like the income from such activities, but I can say they won't be allowed into the EU if they do it.

It's always nice to hear from you, Skarpi. Sounds as if your band is doing very well - congratulations!

I'd like very much to go to Iceland since I learned that it's not so cold. Colder than North Carolina, though, I think!

You certainly could come down here and visit someday! Make a plan! I just talked to a friend tonight who returned from a long, wonderful trip to Africa. She and her husband are nearly eighty, and they saved money for a long time to go, and now will have the these wonderful memories.

Dani

The old story - the best way to understand a living thing is to kill it.

Halló all , good to see that you are all well and alive,
Celtaddic , you´ll find my E-mail here in mudcat so before you go you can tell me when you´re in Iceland, i wish I could go to
Florida or to another country .
Kat, great keep loosing but remember it´s best to loose slow
like 500gr to 1kg pr week then the body get use to it and the skin
will adjust to this changes. I lost 52 kg in about 2 years
and i have had big proplem with my skin but it is goin okei
very slow.
I eat whale meat but we have a lot of food here in Iceland so
I can´t see why we are doing this but they say that they
haveto invesigate some thing about them.
Wll all the best SkarpiIceland.

up there. I almost went on a volunteer
project with the forest service to re-
hab a couple of old cow boy cabins up that
way...ones that the cow pokes stayed in
while --- well, pokin' cows, i guess.

Hey Skarpi,

Nice to here from you again. I love hearing news from Island and still wish I could get back there one of these days. You'd think it wouldn't be too hard considering Icelandair flies out of my hometown, Orlando.

Kat - where on the Western Slope? I lived for a couple years north of Cedaredge on the south rim of the Grand Mesa. Love that area.

pax yall

Skarpi and all,

Here is a very short parody of a Broadway show tune that might be right for the gist of this thread.

Funny,
You're a girl who likes whale meat,
That's an important thing,
Funny,
I'm a guy who likes whale meat,
Small world, isn't it ?

Great hearing from you Skarpi. I do hope you are happy, healthy, and even good !!!

Love,

Art

Thanks, Sam. I used to know the html, but didn't use it enough to remember!

celtaddict...oh, you were on the eastern slope...**BG** I'm over on the Western Slope, about 6/7 hours from Boulder. That's where my great-grandparents pioneered, though and I do love it, but over here is *home*. We just moved back here last year. Hope you had a good visit.

sorry for the thread drift, Skarpi!

Skarpi: takk fyrir for the update. Lived there a couple of years in the 70s and am now planning a return probably June '04 to see everything I loved then (hope it is still there) and everything I did not see before; will look you up.
Katlaughing: Didn't know you were in CO, just returned (Fort Collins area, Boulder, Estes, and the inimitable ward) and was loving the dry heat after our steaming east coast.
Billy the Bus: Thanks for the tip; I am always wishing I could use seimhu and such so will check it all out.

Hi Skarpi,

I was away from Mudcat for a long time, and wondered where you were, when I came back a couple of monts ago. Great to hear from you and to catch up with your actvities. Your mention of Þjóðhátið looked interesting. A Google check found a report from Lonely Planet. Looks like fun.

Kat, diacritics are dead easy if you use AllChars for Windows by Jeroen Laarhoven.

Cheers - Sam - Stewart Island (NZ)

Hallo, my friend! So good to hear from you! It sounds as though you have had a very busy summer. Good for you and your band for singing in Icelandic and the rest and obviously the audience loved you!!

I am getting into shape, too, though not at the rate or to the extent that you are...I have lost 13lbs and am still losing. Yeah!!

It has been very hot and dry in Colorado, this summer, too hot and too dry! But, there is still beauty all around us and my little flowers bloom everyday.

Take care. Still without the proper diacritical remarks:-), I wish you Gooa nott and sofou vel...

Ast,

kat

Kat is worrying about her son making a move across country.

Mick is working hard and annoying his guitar strings.

Catspaw is annoying.

Business as usual.

What is the point in chasing whales around?

Halló all , it´s some time ago i was in on Mudcat, but latly
I have been in and out watching threads and I was wandering
about some people I know as Kat, Big Mick ,Catspaw and many more
where are you , what is happening are you playing , traveling or
just tired, like me .
Anyway for those who want´s to know how live is in Iceland
at the moment here are some words from me.
There have been some festivals here in Iceland this summer
Viking festival, Blues and jazz festivals and ofcourse our femous
( Þjóðhátið ) in Vestmann Island where about 10000 people comes together and have some fun on their Independece weekend for abour four day and night some of with out any sleep just drinking and
having fun.
The summer has been warm and good.
My band played at one festival last Saturday the 9th of Agust
and it went very well, we played for about an hour and I have benn asked over and over again where we will play again next time so we know that did well and are on the right track.
We sang for the first time in Iclandic we did sing only in English
and a little Irish.
Other than this we are starting fishing the whales again and mr.Bush
has sasid that the us naval airforce will stay in Iceland at least
for a bit longer , so we will not be defendless for a time being and
we are thankful for that , I hope that they will stay for the uncome future.Did you know that people are learnig Icelandic becouse they are interresting in Björk? it´s on the news today , thats great. Anyway that´s it,but If anyone want to know why we are fishing whales again I have no Idea.I said I was tired but thats becouse i am training for a test of my life, i am competing in a test of
ten hard ways , not unlike that they have in the army i don´t know what it´s called but I know this is a heavy training program that I
using to get trough this.
All the best from Iceland Skarpi says bless.
