Subject: Lyr Add: AUNTIE ALICE (from Hogsnort Rupert) From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 15 Aug 03 - 11:16 PM From http://folksong.org.nz/dextersongs.html AUNTIE ALICE
In the little church on the village green, I vowed my life away,
CHORUS: Auntie Alice brought us this; Auntie Alice brought us this,
When the Vicar stood up for his speech there was not one eye on him,
When we left the town on our honeymoon to an island far away, |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Aunty Alice Brought Us this From: Billy the Bus Date: 16 Aug 03 - 01:47 AM Yup, Sorcha, band names just aren't what they used to was. Hogsnort Rupert was going back in the 60s. At that time I had a mate who caught wild 'Captain Cooker' piglets in the bush, and bring them back so we could fatten 'em for eating. We grew quite attached to them, and couldn't do the slaughtering and butchering ourselves, though we did eat the meat {somewhat guiltily}. The first was Hogsnort (named for the band}, then Hogface, Hoglet etc.. Cheers - Sam |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Aunty Alice Brought Us this From: Billy the Bus Date: 16 Aug 03 - 03:55 AM Hog = "Pig", Snort = "Grunt" - quite civilised really Sorch, but I'm sure you can find something piggish in it. **VBG**. My mind is boggling at the hilarious "Uniform" connotations you Yanks can make from the above. I went out and gave Billy a big cuddle from you. He needed it, he's tired. He's been out on the road TWICE this afternoon. Unheard of for mid-winter, t'was his first trips in a couple of months. I did real well, despite gaving the 'punters' a 25% discount (t'was "cash in hand"). Appropriate music on the wireless right now Gene Kelly's I'm Singing in the Rain (and it was). Guess you're in bed now, it's the best place for 'good' girls. Shucks, now we're getting I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls LOL - Sam |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Auntie Alice (from Hogsnort Rupert) From: Phil Cooper Date: 26 Oct 16 - 10:08 PM I remember a quote about John Renbourn being in band called Rupert Hogsnort and his Porkestra. before he helped form Pentangle. It was on the back cover of his first music book, put out when dinosaurs roamed the earth. |
