Subject: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Jeri Date: 18 Aug 03 - 09:20 AM Parent thread is 2003 FSGW Getaway - ideas for program
I started this because it looks like there's a bunch of folks concerned about not being able to bring what they'll need. It looked like a topic deserving of its own thread. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Snuffy Date: 18 Aug 03 - 09:28 AM As you know, the British folk scene has a much closer association with alcohol than does the American one. So the Shellbacks will need to get a weekend's worth of booze somwhere between JFK/Newark and the camp. (I take it there's none for sale on the premises). WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Jeri Date: 18 Aug 03 - 09:34 AM Nope, but there's usually quite a bit for free. How are you getting from the airport to the camp? Perhaps if you don't have an opportunity to buy booze on the way, someone will volunteer to drive for a shopping excursion. I could bring extra. I usually don't drink very much so I don't need a large supply and anything extra is community property. What sort of booze do you prefer? |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Allan C. Date: 18 Aug 03 - 10:21 AM Beautiful downtown Havre de Grace is only about 12 miles from the camp. Among its many features is a large liquor store. Inexpensive coolers can be purchased there as well, if memory serves. "Emergency" runs for restocking are not at all unusual or difficult. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Micca Date: 18 Aug 03 - 10:44 AM and a Very good Bottled Cider is available there, maybe Chance Fortunato will see this and fill in some details!! look/ask for "Hard" Cider ( hard = alcoholic), Cider can be like Appletize otherwise! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Dani Date: 18 Aug 03 - 11:40 AM Count me in for anyone who wants a ride up the East Coast. Janie and I will be going that way and, presumably, back. Easy side trip to the airport, no problem either way there either. I can bring spare bedding, and am usually good for plenty of American whiskey. Dani |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Big Mick Date: 18 Aug 03 - 12:33 PM I will have the Guinness and probably some of John Jamesons finest spirits. If there is something else required, let me know and I will pick up some of it. Mick |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 18 Aug 03 - 12:37 PM Perhaps a little FAQ is in order..*grin* booze has an 'interesting' history at the FSGW Getaway. For most of our history we were at State parks or Boy Scout camps where alcohol was 'officially' forbidden...which, of course led to the most amazing and creative ways to have it and not show it too openly. (The crucial announcement was always "take OUT anything you bring IN" meaning we did NOT leave empties in the camp trash/rubbish bins.) This situation also had the effect of making some people just not bother if they had to hide it...and thus of also reducing over-indulgence to almost zero. Now, for the last 3 years, we have been at a camp which allows it, and even has a bar downstairs...it has been so VERY relaxing to be able to just HAVE a beer or share a "bottle of the best" with friends...and so far, we have had no problems. We still have, I'm sure, a few members who do not drink, and worry about proliferation of alcohol...but it has not been a problem yet...and I think we are all clever enough to know how to keep it that way. I will have some excellent beer/ale, etc...and probably some good single malt Scotch, but I have never abused it, and don't enjoy situations where the alcohol becomes more the focus than the music. I suspect most folkies feel that way, and I am not really worried. Many years ago, I added a verse to the old song, "Boozing, Bloody Well Boozing"...take it for what it's worth.. "What's the joy and the curse of the whole working class, Why, boozing, bloody well boozing, What is it robs a poor man of his brass?, Boozing, bloody well boozing. It ruins the liver, it addles the brain, It inspires our singing again and again.. What gives such fair measure of pleasure and pain? Why boozing, bloody well boozing." see you in October! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Dani Date: 18 Aug 03 - 01:23 PM Have y'all ever read the "Whiskey Speech"? It's priceless. If I did this right, you'll read the epitome of compromise: http://www.rdrop.com/users/jimka/whisky.html Dani |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 18 Aug 03 - 01:42 PM wonderful, Dani! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Janie Date: 18 Aug 03 - 03:54 PM Bill D. Thanks for your FAQ. One of the BIG reasons I enjoy the Getaway so much is that it is a MUSIC event and not a drunken zoo. A fair number of people have some to drink, and very few people get drunk. Which means very few people behave obnoxiously. Hope it stays that way. Re: Needs. Non-see-through shower curtains. Could it be arranged for the cabins to have a broom, bucket and mop available? If not, I will bring one of each for our cabin. Somebody let me know. Janie |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 18 Aug 03 - 04:59 PM Janie...I presume the camp would provide mops..etc..if we ask..Charlie Baum will no doubt be communicating with them in the next 2 months... Shower curtains?..Hmmm..."that's not a bug, that's a FEATURE!"..*smile*...seriously, I hadn't heard of THAT problem...will investigate.. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Dani Date: 18 Aug 03 - 07:02 PM Aww, man, Janie, you took all the fun out of it... Dani |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Snuffy Date: 18 Aug 03 - 07:49 PM Jeri, We've got 2 minibuses for the week - one from JFK and one from Newark, but I don't know how much room there'll be for booze after fitting in 23 Shells and their luggage, bedding etc. Personally I only drink beer (which is bulky), but a few would probably prefer wine or spirits (which takes up less room). I'm sure we could persuade Col K to drive us down to Havre de Grace, peformance schedules permitting, or even stop there on the way. WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: SINSULL Date: 18 Aug 03 - 08:22 PM List your preferences and we will see what we can provide for Friday PM (or is it Thursday?). Last year my local supermarket was clearing out old stock and I ended up with 1/2 price single malt and Jamison. Can't promise the same this year. I prefer JD and haad little of the former. SINS |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Tinker Date: 18 Aug 03 - 09:47 PM Since I'm right here next door to beautiful Newark, NJ and expecting the car crew the night before..... Just let me know what you want to stock up on it can easily be here and ready to roll when you are... Tinker |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Micca Date: 19 Aug 03 - 05:18 AM Have you ANY idea how much beer Shellbacks can shift?? |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Willie-O Date: 19 Aug 03 - 08:48 AM Ya need some heat in them cabins! Failing that, single malt doesn't sound like a bad idea. Liquor store's on the highway no more than three miles from the camp. W-O |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST Date: 19 Aug 03 - 08:57 AM heat is taken care of by snuggling. *grin* |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: greg stephens Date: 19 Aug 03 - 09:14 AM Re the kind Americns offering to put in the odd bottle of Guiness for the Brit visitors.I was just reading aa Peet McCarthy book(funniest travel writer i the world), and he was having a quiet chuckle at a table of Americans in a restaurant, where eight Americans were sharing two bottles of wine. I'm sorry to say, and I know you guys over there in have-a-nice-day country think it's a big problem we ought to address, but us brits need approximately one car boot(sorry, trunk) full of beer per person for a folk weekend(more if you stay over Sunday night as well). |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Willie-O Date: 19 Aug 03 - 09:33 AM Beats me Greg. But Americans seem to think Canadians drink too much just like Brits. A friend of mine's husband in upstate New York asked me curiously "so is it true Canadians drink pretty much all the time?" I'd tell you what I answered, but it's after nine a.m., I gotta go get a beer. ;)= Yet, in my experience, Americans in general suck back as many pints as anyone. More so the farther south you go. Of course, what passes for beer there has always been questionable. W-O |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Allan C. Date: 19 Aug 03 - 09:57 AM It may be of interest to note the statistics in this remark from the thread regarding the Yorkshire Gathering where a mere 80 some 'Catters were gathered. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 19 Aug 03 - 10:00 AM " Of course, what passes for beer there has always been questionable." ..."there"?? we have LOTS of 'there' *grin*...and if you look about a bit, Willie-O, you will find we have beer & ale to suit any taste. Not every brand/type in every little store, but ever since New Albion Brewery in 1977, the quality and variety has been rising. Baltimore, right near the Getaway, has some wonderful brewerys and brewpubs. And for those who had their tastebuds shot off in the Crimean war, yes, we still have swill of the type put out by Miller & Budweiser.. any chance you'll be here again, Willie-O?... |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Allan C. Date: 19 Aug 03 - 10:00 AM In light of the above, it seems a wonder that the Getaway attendees have only brought cans and bottles thus far. It would seem that some kegs might be in order. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST,Claymore Date: 19 Aug 03 - 12:32 PM Let me add one comment about the heat. Several people brought space heaters last year and were very disappointed, since the heat rose up into the rafters and never stayed long enough to get anyone very warm. I brought a double size electric blanket and was toasty warm the whole time. I just threw it over my sleeping bag, and since I did not have a partner, I also added my Martin in a spare bed next to mine, plus the clothes I was going to wear the next day, and my bath towel. It was perfect. Remember that the first showers in the morning are a tad brisk, and you can laugh yourself into a coma listening to bodies splat into the plastic walls of the shower stalls, as the first needle of cold water hits them. Also bring some ear plugs as several folks snore like a diesel in a granny gear on a dirt slope. And you can have a religious experience hearing the women making first contact with the cold toilet seats in the morning. (Its OK ladies; at my age, I do my most fervent praying on the john too.) |

Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 19 Aug 03 - 01:54 PM it seems you need to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "later events" to find the Getaway details....(LOTS of details!) |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Allan C. Date: 21 Aug 03 - 12:28 PM With regard to heat, sometimes it is a psychological thing. Here's a photo of Max as he pensively sits beside an artificial campfire in the Mudcat cabin. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST Date: 21 Aug 03 - 12:50 PM I prefer the one of Max gazing soulfully up at Kendall...anyone got a copy of that one to post? |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Charlie Baum Date: 21 Aug 03 - 01:02 PM The Registration Form is almost ready to post, though it needs a little tweaking. Prices are the same as last year, though the Shellback Chorus members get a substantial discount. (One of the last details is to work out logistics to see if they can pay in pounds to a central place, rather than all having to deal with conversion from pounds to U.S. dollars.) The address to which you send it has changed, however. The page noted above will bring you to many details about the FSGW Getaway. Please don't download and use the 2002 registration form--the address to which you send it has changed this year, as we have a new registrar. The Special Guest list also needs updating. We've invited the Missing Persons Soup Kitchen Gospel Quartet (who now bill them themselves simply as Soup Kitchen) and Kendall Morse. we're waiting to hear a response form several other special guests as well. I will mention to the camp about making sure brooms and mops and buckets are avaialble. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Getaway. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Jeri Date: 21 Aug 03 - 01:14 PM ...and if you found a pair of blue sling-back sneaker things last year, please bring 'em! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST Date: 21 Aug 03 - 02:06 PM We can also bring spare bedding if it is needed. Just let us know.... See you there! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST,Carly Date: 21 Aug 03 - 02:08 PM That last offer of bedding was from me. Somehow I (momentarily, I hope) became a GUEST. Carly Gewirz |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: bbc Date: 24 Aug 03 - 03:26 PM If anyone is coming down the East Coast from ME, NH, MA, I might be interested in sharing transportation. It's just the one of me & no instruments. Otherwise, I guess I'll need to drive alone. A couple of restrictions, though: I can't leave my location on the NY side of the border between MA & CT until about 4 pm on the Friday & I need to be back by the end of that Sunday. Work for anyone? Thanks, Barbara |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Susan A-R Date: 27 Aug 03 - 10:49 PM I'm interested in finding a ride from somewhere close to VT to the getaway. I can't help with driving (well I could, but you wouldn't like it) but can certainly keep a driver awake, help with gas and provide road food. I will probably use my self employment perogative and take as much time off as is needed to not miss anything, and to accommodate a driver's schedule. I'm gonna do it this year!! Susan A-R |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: karen k Date: 27 Aug 03 - 11:59 PM Susan, Can't help with the ride since I go down by train but I sure hope you make it. You'll love it. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Barry Finn Date: 28 Aug 03 - 12:52 AM Hi bbc Hi Susan A-R I'll be coming down from Derry (southern)NH. I'd normally take 93 south to 495 south then take 290 south to loop around Worchester MAthen on to the Mass Pike then south on 84 (I think, does that go through Hardford?) then on through NYC. If we can coordinate it you're both welcome to join in, Jeri might want in on this too? Jeri ? I'd be leaving Friday & I'm coming back on Sunday. Susan A-R, is there somewhere you can hook up with me. Manchester NH, or is there a spot that's south of you that would work? bbc, I'd like to get through NYC before rush hr. (I don't know where abouts you'll be coming from?) but if not I'd still wait for you. Jeri are you in on this? I'll probably take my truck it's a 4 door pickup & holds 4-5 passengers, the truck bed should be able to accommodate all the gear. The above directions is how I'd normally go but we can change it around if that doesn't work well with you two. Jeri you can just park in my driveway again. Barry |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Jeri Date: 28 Aug 03 - 08:46 AM Barry, I REALLY enjoyed riding with you before, but there is No Way in Hades I'm coming back on Sunday if I can avoid it. If you have both Susan A-R and Barbara with you, you ought to have nearly as much fun on the road as you will at the Getaway. Songs AND catering! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: bbc Date: 28 Aug 03 - 09:22 AM Hey, Barry, I'd *love* to ride down w/ you! And if Susan can come, too, that would be great! I need to look at a map to see how we can get together. I'm located just about 20 minutes from Sandy & Caroline Paton, if that helps you place me. If you'll send me your phone number by PM, I can call you free any evening after 7 pm or weekend & we'll see if we can work this out. Gee, do you really *need* to drive through NYC?! I'd avoid that like the plague. I won't have instruments, so won't take a lot of space. Thanks so much for the kind offer! best, Barbara |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: PeteBoom Date: 28 Aug 03 - 09:58 AM I just read this thread and was amused at the concern that the Yanks may not understand the amount of beer to be consumed by those from across the pond. Let me just say, if oor Big Mick says he'll bring an extra Guinness, I'd expect it to be of the 13 gallon easy-take-home one-pack... that needs a tap system... ;-) If it wasn't by anniversary weekend, I'd be making plans to go. Ah well... Cheers - Pete |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Peg Date: 28 Aug 03 - 10:55 AM gee this sounds like fun! Kendall always says it's a great time. I love cole weather camping, myself. I would like to come to it at some point. Not sure about this year because the week after I will be going to two conferences, one in Cortland NY then one in the Netherlands! But a weekend is not too tough. Barry, sounds like your vehicle will be full, but if you could fit one more (just me and a sleeping bag, no instruments!), your schedule sounds just fine by me! I could meet you anywhere public transportation goes in/around Boston... Have fun everyone! peg |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Peg Date: 28 Aug 03 - 10:58 AM that should have read "cold" weather camping; hmm, maybe I was channeling "Coleman" as in the folks who make propane tent heaters? Barry, 84 does indeed go thru Hartford CT. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Noreen Date: 28 Aug 03 - 11:03 AM I think spare bedding will be gratefully received by Shellbacks flying from the UK...! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Dani Date: 28 Aug 03 - 11:41 AM Spare bedding should be easy enough for me to bring, too. But you might have to choose between beer and bedding! Dani |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Allan C. Date: 28 Aug 03 - 12:18 PM Damn, Dani! That is a cruel choice to put before almost anyone! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Jeri Date: 28 Aug 03 - 12:27 PM I think the Shellbacks might be better off renting a third vehicle and bringing their own booze! This is sort of like volunteering to pet-sit for someone, then finding out that 'Fido' is an elephant. (I sing "Bring Us a Barrel" you know!) And if you ask Shellbacks to come visit you Just buy a brewery, that ought to do But if it is small, they may drain it post-haste Better have a few barrels on hand just in case Peg, I think you'd enjoy the Getaway very much. I also think the presence of the Shellbacks will mean more and later singing than there's been the last couple of years. This is no criticism, as I personally was incredibly boring last year. Plus I always have a cold, sometimes before I go and sometimes by the time I leave, but EVERY freakin' year! I've decided I'm not going to do that this year. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Alaska Mike Date: 28 Aug 03 - 05:25 PM I still haven't been able to find Program/Registration info for the 2003 Getaway. Can anyone direct me to the correct website or put me on the mailing list or telepathically send it to me? Its already starting to get cool here in Alaska and I am looking forward to traveling south this fall. Mike |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 28 Aug 03 - 06:15 PM It works kinda funny...the link above, Ma href=http://ceimd.com/fsgw/calendar.php3>http://ceimd.com/fsgw/calendar.php3 has a button that says "FSGW group" click that, and there is a direct link to Getaway stuff..(I wish there was one on the first page at this time of year) |

Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Peg Date: 28 Aug 03 - 06:49 PM Jeri; just up your vitamin C intake for a couple of weeks before the Getaway...make sure you balance the late nights and booze with plenty of water and healthy foods...colds only happen if you let yourself get run down! (that said I tend to get one every couple of years myself) peg |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 28 Aug 03 - 06:58 PM please note...the registration form online is for 2002! We need to get up a current one, as some things are different (including where to mail it!) I will see if I can get some info on when all will be correct and up to date! |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Jeri Date: 28 Aug 03 - 07:07 PM I've found that echinacea works better than anything, but I do need to take more vitamin C. Bill, that's last year's stuff. It usually takes a while for Ferarra/Rita to get the schedule worked out. She has to find out who's coming and can lead what, and then do a juggling act with times. She'll probably have the registration form for this year up soon. The one that's there now is from last year, and she said not to use it. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST Date: 28 Aug 03 - 07:16 PM Ohhh Lordy!!! Another "organization" run by a goddess of chaos? If you need something done, better do it yourself. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: CET Date: 28 Aug 03 - 07:22 PM Snuffy: I'm a Canadian beer lover, and I can tell you that you shouldn't believe what you may have heard about American beer. The mass market really is for people who have their taste buds shot off in the war (Coors, Budweiser, etc.). However, the smaller breweries make absolutely superb beer, and their stuff is easy to find. In fact, my favourite beer comes from Pennsylvania. Edmund |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Miken Date: 28 Aug 03 - 07:44 PM Well spoke, Edmund and very true. Mine comes from Alaska! Mike |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Bill D Date: 28 Aug 03 - 08:41 PM yes, Jeri, dear...*grin* thing is, Rita doesn't do the registration form...just the workshop schedule. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Alaska Mike Date: 28 Aug 03 - 09:23 PM OK, I found the 2002 registration form, but thought there might have been a newer, up-to-date version that was eluding me. I will try to wait patiently and not bother the planning folks too much. I have had my share of putting on complex music events and I know they probably don't need any comments from the far north. Miken, which of Alaska's fine brews do you prefer? My personal favorite is a Smoked Porter brewed by Alaska Brewing Co in Juneau. They only make it in the summer and sometimes its hard to find enough to last me through the long, dark winters up here. Mike |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Susan A-R Date: 28 Aug 03 - 10:37 PM Barry, I can get to Manchester. I should probably head down on Thursday night though, given the minimal Vermont Transit Schedule. I may check to see about a later rteturn time. If we go all that way . . . and there's all of that great singing . . . I will have a fiddle, sleeping bag, food and small pack. basically, if I can't walk it to ghe bus station, it doesn't go with me. YESSSSS Susan |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Big Mick Date: 28 Aug 03 - 10:49 PM Yeah, Alaska Mike, just be patient. They will have it up soon. I go through this every year. So you like microbrewery Porters, eh? I will have to haul out some of my favorite from Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo. I think you and I are going to enjoy each other. Now........take yer big carcass over to Fannings house and convince her to bring her Royal backside down with you. It would be wonderful to meet this old friend who is as yet unmet. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Alaska Mike Date: 28 Aug 03 - 11:32 PM Hi Mick, I do in fact love a good Porter. I figure why drink something that isn't finished. Just put that other stuff back inside the Clydesdale and eventually it might become beer. Fact is I even wrote a song about Porter that got signed to a Hollywood music publisher. I keep hoping they will put it into a hit movie or something so I can retire early and bask in the glow of enormous royalties. Until that happens I guess I'll keep plugging along. I'm fairly new to Mudcat so don't know a whole lot of folks here. I hope to meet lots of new friends in October. Give me a little more info on Fanning and I will see what I can do about talking her into going to the Getaway. Best wishes, Mike |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Allan C. Date: 29 Aug 03 - 02:55 PM I had promised a few of the Shellbacks that I would bring some "decent" tea to the Getaway this year for them. Yorkshire Gold and PG Tips are both available here where I am currently living. However, it is now definite that I will not be attending this year's Getaway. I will be in England before the end of September. So, my hope is that someone else who can lay their hands upon a box or two of the above teas will bring them to the Getaway to share. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: CET Date: 29 Aug 03 - 03:42 PM I'll bring a case of my favourite lager, Creemore Springs, from the bustling metropolis of Creemore, Ontario. Now if some kind soul from Pennsylvania could bring some Troegs Pale Ale ... Edmund |

Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST,Charmion at work Date: 02 Sep 03 - 03:33 PM Edmund (CET) and I will be driving south from Ottawa, Ontario on Interstate 81 through New York State as far as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, then heading east to Havre de Grace and the camp by whatever way looks most efficient. We will be departing Ottawa on Thursday and expect to arrive on Friday, as we generally travel at fairly legal speeds. We will make the return trip on Monday and Tuesday. For the first time in recorded history we have a car that is both efficient and comfortable, and if anyone in eastern Ontario would like to go but lacks transport, we can accommodate one person for sure, possibly two if they're very friendly and travel light. |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Big Mick Date: 02 Sep 03 - 04:20 PM And if you haven't had the great pleasure of meeting Charmion and Edmund yet, my friends, you are in for a treat. Lovely folks with a great deal of charm and talent. Safe travels, Mick |

Suppose there's room in the truck Barry? Anyuone made up a list of who's going to this one? I'm off to print out and fill in my registration form. (and turn off the ball game. Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Sep 03 - 05:55 PM Anybody want to share the cost of a rental car from BWI (Baltimore) airport? I'll be arriving Friday evening and flying out sometime after noon on Monday. If anybody has a schedule that's close, tlet me know. Last year, I rented a car Friday, drove an hour, and then parked it for a weekend. Seems like a waste. -Joe Offer- joe@mudcat.org |
Subject: RE: 2003 FSGW Getaway - Travelers Needs From: GUEST,Claymore Date: 05 Sep 03 - 11:43 AM Joe, If you don't mind a notorious moderate Republican, I will be motoring past B-more about noonishn from the Cultural Hub of the Western Hemisphere (Shepherdstown, WV) and headed back on Monday. What time are you coming in to BWI and what airline? I don't have PM rights so email me at moordo@jcdc.jobcorps.org if you want to arrange something. I have a GMC Jimmy which will have a long neck, a guitar, and an autoharp. I should have plenty of room. |
