A long time ago in a galaxy far away...well Santa Cruz CA in 1977 to be more precise...I heard on the local public radio an Irish/Celtic musician named Robin Williams, I think. I have been searching for recordings of his but he seems to have disappeared. Any leads would be appreciated.

Would that be the Robin Williams of Robin and Linda fame? Or are you thinking of Incredible String Band founder Robin WilliamSON? My guess would be the former as he played with his Merrie Band in California a lot around then. He has lots of albums, mostly on Flying Fish records. I believe he's living in Wales these days, but visits the states regularly. Hope this helps!

If you can give us an idea of the sort of songs you remember, we can probably tell you which one it is.
Blessings,
Barbara

Pretty sure it is Robin Williamson. If you do an Internet search on The Incredible String Band you will find a site that will help you.

Robin and Linda Williams are regular guests on "A Prairie Home Companion," on PBS radio. In the SF bay area it airs from 6 to 8 on Saturdays (KQED radio) and 11-1:00 on Sundays. Check your local PBS radio station for times--the show has lots of folk and gospel and blues and Irish and jazz and classical music, as well as Garrison Keeler's inimitable wit. Robin and Linda tour regularly: I saw them at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley a year or so ago, and bought one of their CDs, "Sugar for Sugar."

If it is Robin Williamson You heard, I listened to him play his harp and sing in a little cafe in Encinitas, California in 1981. I was fortunate to hear him and buy a cassette of his music. It is titled "Songs of Love and Parting" and is on the Flying Fish label (FF 90257). To my sorrow the cafe no longer exists.

If it was a Celtic musician it was most likely Robin Williamson. He has several CDs available recorded with his Merry Band over the last 20 years or so. Most if not all of the albums he did with the Incredible Sring Band in the 60's and 70's are now on CD - less traditional but wonderful music. There is a new CD out (which I haven't heard yet) of a live concert last year, a reunion with Mike Heron, the other main member of the Incredible String band.

Another new CD I just saw at Music Boulevard is Robon Williamson telling old Celtic stories. I saw him perform several years ago and, although the music was excellent, the high point of the show, for me, was the storytelling. I going to go order it right now.

There is a guy in the Fenians named Robin Williams, although he goes by "Rob". The Fenians web page is at http://.smithway.org/fenians. There are photos and bios and stuff like that there.
