Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Où vas-tu, mon petit garçon? (Acadian) From: Monique Date: 06 Jul 11 - 07:07 PM Q, the beginning reminds me of Billy Boy and more of it of London Brigde is Falling Down but maybe it's just that when you start one you feel like skipping to the other because it sounds good -it could have been just one whole tune, if you see what I mean. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Où vas-tu, mon petit garçon? (Acadian) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Jul 11 - 07:16 PM I presume Part 2, Bob. Thanks. I haven't convinced myself that I should buy the two volumes. Quite a bit of cash. Some years ago I got Barbeau's two volumes on totem poles, which also was pricy. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Où vas-tu, mon petit garçon? (Acadian) From: Bob the Postman Date: 06 Jul 11 - 09:29 PM Part 2 for sure, entitled "En Roulant Ma Boule". I got the two volumes at clearance sale prices at the Museum of Civilisation gift shop a few years back--too cheap to pass up. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Où vas-tu, mon petit garçon? (Acadian) From: Artful Codger Date: 06 Jul 11 - 09:39 PM Museum of Civilization? I knew it was a concept whose time had passed. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Où vas-tu, mon petit garçon? (Acadian) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 07 Jul 11 - 02:29 PM There are three parts to the work by Marius Barbeau- 485 + 753 + 620 = 1858 pages of music and lyrics. Surely a Magnum Opus ! |
Subject: Tune Add: OÙ VAS-TU, MON PETIT GARÇON? (Acadian) From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 07 Jul 11 - 02:38 PM I have transcribed the source found by Artful. It sounds to me very much like a recent "pop version", meant to attract young guitar-strummers (like the boy scout pictured on the front cover) or imaginary ones playing the CD. (Here is a Maude Robichaud-Lévesque singing a similar rhythm a capella, nevertheless somwhat pop-like.) The part of the questioner is named "Woman:" in the book - who is she, if not a false knicht? A witch, a whore, a female drug dealer, the Angel of Death (La Mort), or Henriette Major? X:1 T:Où vas-tu, mon petit garçon? C:trad.
