Subject: Road Cycling & Mudcatters, Where? From: wysiwyg Date: 21 Aug 03 - 03:53 PM Hardi and I are just back from a little trip around Ohio-- great flat cycling on asphalt for him, motels with pools for me. All that was missing was Mudcatters! Does anyone know of good, relatively flat cycling opportunities in your area so we can add more music to the mix next year? The cycling needs to be on paved or tiny-gravel over hardpack-- it's a skinny-tire road bicycle, and although Hardi does some climbing at home he prefers to rack up lots of flat miles through good scenery when on vacation. Our lodging needs are fairly complicated so we're not asking for crash space-- we like to be off on our own where I can do my rehab work in the water, too. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Road Cycling & Mudcatters, Where? From: David Ingerson Date: 21 Aug 03 - 04:26 PM The Willamette Valley, from Portland up to Eugene, Oregon, is pretty flat and there are a bunch of us around the Portland area, but I don't know about Eugene or Corvallis. However, we could always get a bunch of good singers together, Mudcatters or not! Oh, and Blessings Barbara is just one small hill over from the valley into the Coast Range (but there are no motels near her, I think). Sounds like fun! David |

Subject: RE: Road Cycling & Mudcatters, Where? From: artbrooks Date: 23 Aug 03 - 07:36 AM Not here...almost everything is up-and-down. We used to live in Madison, WI, and enjoyed the Elroy-Sparta bike trail. It was about 35 miles long, paved, mostly float, and included 3 old railroad tunnels. I understand that it now connects at either end to other trails, and the total distance is 80 miles or so miles. There are lots of bike trails built on old railroad rights of way, and the "Rails to Trails Conservancy" is the place to check for these. They have a website, here. Pick your Mudcatter and find a trail to match! |
