Well folkies I went, and I enjoyed. It was held in a small village hall, seating no more than 200 people, and the atmosphere was good. Eric sang and talked and told stories of his life, it was a nice intimate venue. He was accompanied by just the one musician, John Campbell Munro, he was the perfect foil for Eric musically, and humourwise. Not only that but sat either side of the stage they looked like bookends, being of similar build and colouring. Only heard one song I hadn't heard before, but enjoyed them all, especially Gomez & Blodwyn. I gather John Munro is part of Colcannon, so I guess I'll have to find out more about them now.

Glad you enjoyed giok. I saw Eric & John Munro recently and really enjoyed the gig. Its nice to hear great songs like 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' (a song which i reckon now qualifies for the title of 'folk song' - ooooh bit contraversial there vin, could start a new thread wi that!) performed by the original writer. John C Munro and Eric do make a smashin combo. Not heard Colcannon, so i too will have to seek em out.

We've got him at Linlithgow Folk festival, 12th-14th September. Tickets going well for his concert. Saw John Munro with him around 4-5 years ago on a previous tour: John has quite a high voice which makes for great harmonies, e.g. in "A Reason for it All" (AKA Claire)
Also saw Colcannon last year at Tinto (Lanarkshire); excellent band.

I'm jealous.

Performers like Bogle don't seem to come to Florida hardly ever.

I've been told that the Chieftains will be in Florida next March. Unfortunately it's in Naples Florida, down in the extreme south west of the state, 200 miles away and me with a motor scooter...

And Bogle's website lists no current plans to hit North America.

I was extremely fortunate to open for Eric Bogle at a wonderful concert here in Anchorage, Alaska a few years ago. We spent some time together talking in the Green Room and swapped CD's afterword. He is a fine songwriter and a very generous person. The show was well received by everyone and we hope he returns for another concert in the near future. I hope more of you get the chance to hear this very talented Aussie.

Eric Bogle's on tonight at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen - should be good - and is at Lossiemouth Folk Club on 9 Sept. Colcannon are in the UK next year, Aug/Sept time, and well worth seeing. Probably (we're hoping) at Fyvie in September 2004

Cheers

I saw him and john about a year ago here in Portland....was one of the best shows I have ever been...it was odd though...instead of doing two smallish sets...he did one big set....and he is a very nice and encouraging fellow...

as a side note, my fiancee for my birthday (which is next month) tracked down a copy of his songbook....signed by the man himself....and got it for me....lovely woman.

Strolling Johnnie, Eric was born in Scotland but emigrated to Australia in the early seventies and has taken out Australian Citizen ship. Just to pick a few nits.
