There is a beautiful minor tune to this song, but the lady I got this from only knows it as a Scottish Lullaby. Anyone know more about this song. Title is what I mean since I have the tune. Thanks in advance to all!! Here are the words:

Hush! the waves are rolling in,
White with foam, white with foam;
Father toils amid the din
While baby sleeps at home.

Hush! the wind roars hoarse and deep
On they come, On they come;
Brother seeks the wand'ring sheep
While baby sleeps at home.

Hush! the rain sweeps o'er the knowes
Where they roam, where they roam;
Sister goes to seek the cows,
But baby sleeps at home.

Kudzuman

Well, THAT was fun! The only credited reference I could find to it was in the footnotes of a rather strange vampire tale at

http://www.shadows-and-dust.co.uk/Fiction3/thepriceyoupay11-15.htm

...which says Judy Collins recorded it under the name "Gaelic Lullaby" on a CD called "Baby's Bedtime."

Hope that helps!

Claire

The first stanza is also found in "Nantucket Lullaby." The tune is not the same. This is from B.A. Botkin, A Treasury of New England Folklore, rev. ed. (Crown, 1967, p. 571).
