Does anyone have the words for a song I heard that includes the refrain "We'll meet on the shore"
Sorry to be so vague.

Could this possibly be the source of the song you seek?

Well, I found these two intriguing references...

The Rum and Shrub Shantyman have Meet On the Shore as a sea-song/shanty on their When The Hauling's Over CD.

Penny Davies & Roger Ilott on their Heart Of Town CD have a song called, We'll Meet On The Shore

I also found a mention of a song called "We'll Meet On the Shore" which was the tune used for a Wiccan song.

No lyrics as such though.

Well, there is In the Sweet By and By which has 'meet on that beautiful shore' but I suspect that's not it.

Could it be the following?
I kissed her on the cheek and the crew began to roar,
Way hay and up she goes We're bound for Baltimore;
I kissed her on the cheek and the crew began to roar,
As soon as we reach the town tonight, we'll all stay on the shore.

Is it this song?

MEETING IS OVER

Brothers now our meeting is over
Brothers we must part
And if I never see you anymore
Well I'll love you in my heart.
For we'll meet on the shore
Yes we'll meet on the shore
Yes we'll meet on the shore
And be safe for evermore.

Subsequent verses have:
Sister, Father, Mother and any other relative one cares to throw into the song.Wonderful harmonisation is possible. Good parting song for any folk gathering.

George, was the Wiccan one you saw, the same as what Mary has posted?

The one Mary posted is one the wimmin's and pagan groups I've been to frequently used and there is a wonderful rendition of it on Libana's "A Circle is Cast" CD, but I also have it on a "Fair Stood the Wind" tape from Mystic Seaport. I am sure it pre-dates modern Wicca tunes. FWIW

Sara

If that is the one (Alan c) Then it is the one featured by Rum and Shrub Shantymen.

A Good Song
John

I found it here Alder Waxing Moon

It wasn't a song they listed. They mentioned the tune "We'll Meet On The Shore". It was part of the farewell ritual.

Thanks, George. Your link doesn't work. I could back out to the main page, but couldn't get the rest of the URL to work. It's okay, though, sounds as though they refer to the same song I am familiar with.

On Libana's CD and the tape I have, though, I could swear they sing "land on the shore. Hmmm...feels as though some of us have had this converstion before..time to do a Super Search, I think.:-)

Well there is the Methodist hymn,"Say Brothers will you meet us on Canaan's Other Shore". There is a thread here about it that can be
found in the search.

Guest Sara has indicated that the song she wants is probably "We'll Meet on the Shore" by Penny Davies & Roger Ilott, from Queensland, Australia. It appears on their album "Heart of Town." Now, does anybody have those lyrics?

Well, one could email them from their Web Page and/or click on the mp3 link and see if they have that song available from that same page. Google doesn't seem to have the lyrics anywhere.

WE'LL MEET ON THE SHORE
(Penny Davies and Roger Ilott)

Chorus: We'll meet on the shore when the storm is done,
Floating on the wreckage, all the lucky ones.
We'll meet on the shore where the oceans come and go,
Washed by tears and memory,
Where winds forget to blow.

The storm is howling round us, our ship is sinking fast,
This ocean means to drown us, each moment seems our last. Chorus

There's tears upon our faces, each woman, man and child
Fears reefs and rocky places when the seas are wild. Chorus

Lost in stormy waters, we cling to what we can,
And bless the tides that brought us safe to shore again. Chorus

Not sure of the legality, and I can only plead ownership of quite a lot of their CDs to justify this. They are brilliant!
