Any other 'catters for Swanage this weekend? It's a lovely festival in a superb seaside setting: lots of dancing and busking along the promenade, workshops and a couple of decent sessions and main stage acts...

...if you are, then come and say "hullo" and sing a song/play a tune or three at the open mic session on Saturday lunchtime/afternoon which I have the pleasure and privilege of hosting. They've been pretty special the last couple of years...

...more at the official festival site

I'll be down on the Saturday playing for the dance team (Bluefields) but won't be able to escape. Weather forecast looks hopeful. Looking forward to fish and chips at lunchtime....

good stuff, Lizzy. Weather's looking good according to BBC weather site:

Friday - bright 24c
Saturday - sunny 22c
Sunday - bright 20c

...and dry throughout. Weather, not the pubs.

First time at Swanage for me.
Any one recommend a good session pub for the Friday night /saturday.
And (boring question) would you go over the ferry or around the estuary to get there?

I have to say a few words of warning to people going if its anything like last year.

1) The camp site was at least a couple of miles away from the town.
2) The festival bus service finished finshed at 11.30 most of the pub session finish at 12.00 and the Taxis fare is about a fiver
3) the season ticket did NOT include the main concerts at the school ie Flook and Show of Hands. it only covers the dance tent and a small discount for the festival camp site.
4) The stewards were not aware of this in fact telling me at one point that it there was a discount on presentation of season ticket which proved incorrect.
5) The pub acts and sessions were free not requiring season tickets
6) the singarounds were not hosted or even organised (excet the open mike run by Hamish and friends,

on the other hand the dancing displays were nice and this is primarily a dance side festival and the free noodles were excellent at the open mike session (you sang a couple of times and got a free bowl.

Maybe these problems have been sorted out I certainly hope so for the enjoyment of the sinngers that go this year. Cllr
