A look through the relevant sections of folkinfo.org's Event Listings might prove productive.

Leadfingers, is that far from the Chiswick High Street at the Chiswick La juncture?

Guest, Ed, Thanks. Looks like I'll be a bit early for the Honiton club.

If you look in the "Folk London Diary" entries for September, you'll find the following:

Fri 19th:

MUSICAL TRADITIONS (King & Queen, 1 Foley St, W1. 020 8340 0530) has Molly Andrews.

Sat 20th:

CELLAR UPSTAIRS (The Exmouth Arms, Starcross St, London NW1. 020 7281 7700) has The Wilson Family.

Both of these are excellent clubs and are reasonably easy to get to from Chiswick by the Underground.
Note - Because of licensing law restrictions, both clubs require you to become a member at least 48 hours in advance - you can do this by e-mail - see club websites.

Sad to say, the Wilsons have cancelled Cellar Upstairs on 20 September but the Marble String Band is booked instead.

If you can possibly get into London by Thursday evening, 18 September there is a totally unmissable opportunity to see Mat Green & Andy Turner at Islington Folk Club

Hi Rara Avis
I haven't been for a while but I believe the Bideford Folk Club still meets every Thursday and therefore should meet on Thu 25 Sept - 10 miles from Barnstaple. It is very friendly and meets at the Joiners Arms next to the Panier Market but please check with Jerry Bix on +44 (0)1237 470792 or try jerry.bix@ virgin.net.
Enjoy!
"Twas down in Albert Square ...!"
Alan

Friday 3rd Oct if you can get a lift to St Albans where Steve Tilston is appearing at the St Albans folk song club at the Comfort Hotel on Holywell hill plus cracking residents with cracking songs at the cuting edge of folk song.
Friday night is the Bodmin folk club at the Garland Ox,Sunday the Moorland folk club ,Wotter near Plymouth. Both reputable clubs like St ALbans.
Mondays Herga at the Royal Oak ,Peel Rd, Wealdstone for the best chorus singing apart from St Albans.
Good findings.

Thank you all for your information, which I will take with me. No chance of stopping at the Islington Folk Club; my flight doesn't leave Philadelphia until late on the 18th. Would it be worth my time to wander over to the Cecil Sharp House for a look-in during the day? Again, many thanks.

cresby.com links to What's Afoot and other Devon Night info. Bath has an acoustic music club that has an open mic (yes really) probably wednesday now in the Dollally Bar (or similar name). However on Fri the Porter Butt is still a session and last I heard a rival one across the road was started. 26th is a Fri - so consider Bell Sat lunch and Freshford >nr Bath -Freshford Inn* 01225 723005 -- Sun Irish + 3rd Mon. It's all on the website but do check if you are travelling just for that venue. Honiton hosts the Lyme Bay FC 1st Sun and in Axminster -Red Lion *Kay 01297 24870 -- 8pm 3rd Tue. I thought there was something in the TIC (aka Friends meeting house) in Illminster but I have lost the info.

let us know how you find the venues.

Hi Rara,
You can get info on Welsh stuff from www.folkwales.org.uk and www.taplas.co.uk.
Although I don't know of any clubs on the day you are in Bridgend, Pen-y-Fai is home to a Welsh dance team (you probably knew that) whose excellent musicians do gigs as Mabon, they will have their ears closer to the ground than mine, on www.mabon.org.uk

Good luck!

Splott Man

There will be a ceilidh at C# House on the evening of Friday 19th. I expect if you emailed the library beforehand they would have time to show you around.

Cecil Sharp House is not that far away from the MUSICAL TRADITIONS club.

In fact, Peta Webb would probably insist that you went to MT rather than the ceilidh, in return for a guided tour of the C# house library! (Tube from Camden Town to Goodge Street, 27 bus all the way back to Chiswick).

A far better way of getting from C# house to MT is the C11 bus from the top of parkway get off past Great Portland Street tube station and short stroll through (avoids Camden Town Tube Station which is always a good thing to do...).

Anyone at the House should direct you to the correct bus stops etc.

We have Molly Andrews at The old Rose and Crown, London E17 the night before MT but I didn't mention it earlier since the dates didn't line up.

Rara

No Folk Clubs on in St.Ives or nearby but a session at
The Western in St. Ives on Tuesdays. If you are interested in coming to a session at the Top House at the Lizard on a Monday, a friend drives over from Carbis Bay each week and would give you a lift. pm me if interested.

John

John's site is http://www.angelfire.com/mo/kernowfolk or go to cresby.com and surf to it from there. - Bath venues I cover fairly well. Martin Nail's site lists and links to a lot nationally.
