Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Two Little Irish Boys From: maeve Date: 17 Sep 12 - 07:59 AM Could be, 999. Versions of it have been sung and recited by so many people. Greg Brown sings one version. I seem to remember our own Kendall Morse reciting it. As sung and attributed by Greg Brown: "Two Little Boys" public domain (Arranged by me into similar linebreaks to the R.Harris version for comparison; errors not edited. Maeve) Two little boys, two little toys each was a wooden horse. Gaily they played, each summer's day Soldier boys, of course. One little chap, he had a mishap and he broke off his horse's head, Wept for his toy, then cried with joy when his young comrade said: "Do you think, Jack, I'd leave you crying when there's room on my horse for two? Climb up, Jack, we'll soon be flying. He can go just as fast with two. When we grow,we'll both be soldiers and our horses won't be toys, And it may be, Jack, that we'll remember when we were two little boys." The years quickly passed, the war came at last and bravely the boys marched away. Cannon roared loud, midst the mad crowd wounded and dying Jack lay. When out rings a cry and a horse dashes by out of the ranks of the blue. Dashes away to where Jack lay and a voice rang strong and true. "Do you think Jack, I'd could leave you dying when there's room on my horse for two? Climb up Jack, we'll soon be flying He can go just as fast with two. Do you Jack, I'm all a tremble? Perhaps it's the battles noise- Or maybe,Jack, that I remember when we were two little boys. ********** Rolf Harris singing "Two little boys" along with the following: "also commonly played by Irish band The Frames... as well as by the Canadian band The Irish Rovers" ********* Two Little Boys as sung by Rolf Harris - Songwriters: MADDEN, EDWARD/MORSE, THEODORE/BRADEN, ALAN Two little boys had two little toys Each had a wooden horse Gaily they played each summer's day Warriors both of course One little chap then had a mishap Broke off his horse's head Wept for his toy then cried with joy As his young playmate said Did you think I would leave you crying When there's room on my horse for two Climb up here Jack and don't be crying I can go just as fast with two When we grow up we'll both be soldiers And our horses will not be toys And I wonder if we'll remember When we were two little boys Long years had passed, war came so fast Bravely they marched away Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd Wounded and dying lay Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out Out from the ranks so blue Gallops away to where Joe lay Then came a voice he knew Did you think I would leave you dying When there's room on my horse for two Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying I can go just as fast with two Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble Perhaps it's the battle's noise But I think it's that I remember When we were two little boys Do you think I would leave you dying There's room on my horse for two Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying Back to the ranks so blue Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble Perhaps it's the battle's noise But I think it's that I remember When we were two little boys [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/ly ) |
