Subject: RE: Folklore: All you Essex Catters, Help! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 08 Sep 03 - 08:22 PM My website about this badly needs updating, and I promise I'll do that soon - but even so it gives a good idea of what is around. Two clubs in Bishop's Stortford, one in Waltham Abbey, and a range of sessions in various pubs and clubs within a few miles, both sides of the Essex Herts county boundary. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: All you Essex Catters, Help! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Sep 03 - 08:30 AM But of course Hertfordshire and London are a lot closer than most of Essex when you're living in North Weald. Which means Folk London and Unicorn. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: All you Essex Catters, Help! From: GUEST,efnMagazine Date: 10 Sep 03 - 08:11 AM Thanks for the plug Jeannie. For information the full song club and session guide is here Not all venues have PELs - members only clubs can be identified and joined at clik.to/membershop |
Subject: RE: Folklore: All you Essex Catters, Help! From: GUEST,efnMagazine Date: 10 Sep 03 - 10:53 AM Sorry about the typo on the links, looks like I missed off a set of quote marks. Full club and session guide Details of peripatetic 2nd Friday (mostly instrumental)session and new club just starting in Braintree Nearest session to North Weald should be (from memory) at the White Hart, Moreton, 1st Friday monthly although this is primarily instrumental. IF LadyP's friend is looking for somewhere to sit back and see "name" acts then Stortfolk, Old Rose and Crown (both Thursdays) and The Retreat (new club, roughly alternate Wednesdays)are the closest booking high profile performers. Waltham Abbey and Essex Singers are mix of guests and singarounds. |
Subject: RE: Folklore: All you Essex Catters, Help! From: harlowpoet Date: 11 Sep 03 - 04:53 AM Although Waltham Abbey Folk Club is technically members only, its not a legal requirement, as there is a PEL in place. Membership to the folk club is in effect free, to anyone who turns up on the Monday nightand and pays small admission (£1) for open nights. Our membership policy is in place to comply with British Legion rules. Put it this way, we haven't turned anyone away yet, although I nearly had this distinction once when I turned up drunk after an all day session. However thats different matter. Simon |
Subject: RE: Folklore: All you Essex Catters, Help! From: GUEST,efnMagazine Date: 11 Sep 03 - 08:04 AM Sorry about the lack of precision Simon. Your club is of course one of two in the county that meet on club premises and have membership conditions imposed by the owners rather than the local authority. |
