Subject: Chord Req: Suo Gan chords needed, please. From: Beccy Date: 09 Sep 03 - 04:58 PM Hey folks (or should I say, Folkies?) I've been singing Suo Gan (or Huna Blentyn) for some time, and it occured to me that I maybe should learn to accompany myself with it... Does anyone have the chords for this tune? Thanks a bunch in advance! Beccy |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Suo Gan chords needed, please. From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 09 Sep 03 - 06:46 PM We've had a number of threads on this song over the years. Goes back to thread #1144. Unfortunately, there was no chords in any of them. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Suo Gan chords needed, please. From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 09 Sep 03 - 06:51 PM Google mentions quite a number of books, usually harp or guitar, with chords for those instruments. However, the chords themselves are not there. You might have a look at Google, and then check your local music store to see if any of them have the books. They seem to be inexpensive. Sorry couldn't find anything else. |

Subject: Suo Gan chords needed, please. From: Nigel Parsons Date: 03 Jan 13 - 03:46 AM It seems that they use different words (although I can't access YouTube in work) Come to me, O child beloved, Eyes of wonder softly close, Tiny hand release my finger, Weary head receive repose. Sleep, and love arises in me, Waking hope till joy o'erflows. Lead me, little child so tender, To the place I long to go. Rest in me, O child beloved, May thy sweet dreams never cease: Till I hear around us winging Seraphs singing heavenly peace. Then I'll walk through night and shadow By the light that shines in thee, Flowing as a stream forever To the blessed, fruitful Tree. Singing heavenly peace forever. Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep. Subject: RE: Chord Req: Suo Gan chords needed, please. From: Pibydd Date: 08 Jan 13 - 04:14 PM There are problems when songs in minority languages get translated, I fear - more so than when songs in majority languages are translated. This leads to further erosion of cultural and linguistic identities. Minority languages need to be heard more, not less. This is especially true in the home countries of those languages. More specifically as in this instance, Welsh needs all the help it can get! Artistically, it's also pretty much impossible to capture the true spirit, meanings and subtleties of many songs in another language, in my experience. So much is lost. Some of the Victorian translations of Welsh songs are awful, for example. I'd prefer the song to be sung in the original language and a literal, prose translation given if necessary. Better, then, perhaps, to do as seems to have been done by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir above, and write new words which aren't an attempt at a close translation (although they keep to the theme) |
