Father Put The Cow Away, by Bud Messner and Molly Darr.

Starts out with the story of the old maid and the burglar, then a chorus about not being able to do the milking for the night.... succeeding verses are other similar stories.

CHORUS:

"Father put the cow away
Get her out of sight.
I am heavy-hearted,
I cannot milk tonight.
It ain't fair to this here cow
For me to try and milk her now.
Father put the cow away--
I cannot milk tonight.
Tra-la-la-la-la, Tra-la-la-la-la,
Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la."

Not a very clear understanding on the part of the composer on the need of a cow to be milked regularly. In my experience, if you neglect to milk them at their regular time they'll soon be bellowing outside your window!

I just realised that in Australia

to "Put the Cow Away"

could mean that the poor thing was sick and was not expected to last long so we should put it it of its misery....
