The song is just a 1-6-2(4)-5 progression--which would be something like C-Am-Dm(F)-
G7--the rhythm is boomboom-baba boomboom--baba (like the "Mashed Pototoes"--I am guessing that this is not going to really be a finely polished piece, so if the piano player just bangs out those chord, Elton John style, which would be a boomboom chord with the left hand and a Baba chord with the right hand (with the sustain pedal down), no one would ever know that you didn't have the sheet music--

Each chord is played for two measures:

||:CC/CC/AmAm/AmAm/Dm7Dm7/Dm7Dm7/G7G7/G7:||

With one boomboombaba for each chord, which would be two for each measure--minor adjustments might be necessary at the end of each phrase. I used to stroll tables in a restaurant   and play requests after the dinner music was done--I played this one a lot(quess when it was and what kind of clientel the restaurant had) and never worked it out or practiced it--it was a lot better that way:-)

I know this sounds cheapskate but we were hoping not to have to spend any money .... impoverished educational establishment etc!

Hi Sarah - go to http://www.di-arezzo.com/uk/accueil_cla.php?aff=google and search for ymca (no dots!). You'll find 2 sheets, about € 13.-

Not sure if it helps, but I found this:

Tablature for Village People YMCA

I might suggest that you want to check in your local music store (place where you buy instruments vs CD stores), for a Fake Book:

Fake Books

There is one that is called the Ultimate Fake Book, which has 1200 songs in it. Didn't see a listing of titles in it.

TabRobot search results. Any of those useful? If nothing else, the pianist can just use the chords and fake it.

Graham.

Help - has anyone out there by any chance got the dots for that popular song by the Village people YMCA. We need the music urgently for a school concert and have drawn a blank so far. We have the words but need the music for our piano player. I know you probably wont want to admit to having this but any help - even a pointer to a website would be gratefully received

Thanks in advance and anticipation

Sarah
