This old gospel song dates from the time of, and had some of the thoughts of "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder." Just ran across it in the large Max Hunter Collection.

It was collected from Ollie Gilbert, Arkansas, in 1971, with the title "Bugle Call to Heaven." Max Hunter Collection.

Many recordings, including Jimmy Dean, Wilburn Brothers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Webb Pierce, Randy Travis, etc.

No data on author.

Subject: Lyr Add: BUGLE CALL FROM HEAVEN (from Webb Pierce)
From: Jim Dixon

I don't know, Susan... If heaven is run like a military camp, where will the conscientious objectors go? I couldn't resist transcribing it anyway. Enjoy.

BUGLE CALL FROM HEAVEN
(S. L. Shook)
(As sung by Webb Pierce)

Hear that call. Hear that call.

When that bugle calls from heaven,
Will you be ready to spend that last retreat?
When the battle is all over,
Will you be ready your loved ones to meet?
When that final roll is called up yonder
And the cares of this life are no more,
Will you be in that great army
That lands on that bright and peaceful shore?

CHORUS: When the master up in heaven
Looks down from above and says, "That's all,"
Can you stand that last inspection?
Can you answer that final bugle call?

Dear Lord and Savior up in glory,
Please have mercy on this sinful soul of mine.
When that bugle calls from heaven,
Let me be ready to fall into line.
Hear that call. Hear that call.
Seems to me that I can hear the trumpet blow,
Calling now on our Savior's soldiers
To end all this earthly strife below. CHORUS

[Webb Pierce recorded this in 1954. His recording appears on 3 albums: "Greatest Country Gospel #4," 1992; "Jubilation, Vol. 3 (Country Gospel)," 1992; and "Wondering Boy (1951-1958)," Bear Family 4-CD boxed set, 1990. The Wilburn Brothers also recorded it, on their albums "Big Heartbreak," 1960; and "Wonderful Wilburn Brothers, 1961.]

Bugle Call From Heaven, as recorded by Webb Pierce. Hear it at RECORD LADY (use the song title index there to find it).

I'll transcribe it if no one has it in paste form.

Thanks,

~Susan
