From: TheBigPinkLad

Anyone remember this song from England in the 1960s? It was sung by kids. Some (inaccurate) snippets I recall:

All: Mums and dads, mums and dads, let's play mums and dads,
Mums and dads, mums and dads, funny mums and dads.

Girls: Where you bin all night, look at'cher yer such a sight ...

Boys: I bin out wiv Charlie Brown, remember Charlie Brown? Good old Charlie Brown!

Ring any bells?

It's from the Lionel Bart musical, 'Blitz'. Bart's musicals were enormously popular in the 1050's and 70's, so it should be a relatively easy search.

Sorry about the typo for 1960's and 70's, the Blitz was notorious for little mistakes in the blackout.

Thanks Georgina, I'll start a search.

My mother spent her army career in London during the blitz. Lucky Mum, hey?

"Mums and Dads" can be found on the album "Broadway Kidz Favorite Childrens Songs," Madacy CD 723, 1996.

You can find a sound sample at Yahoo! Shopping > Music, but I find it mostly unintelligible.

Here are the Lyrics:

Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Let's play mums and dads.

GIRLS
Where've you been all night?
Yes your dinner's on the light.
Don't consider poor me,
Just as long as you're alright.
Johnny wants new shoes,
And the kids have bust a fuse,
And you really do look a sight!

BOYS
I bumped into Charlie Brown.
Remember Charlie Brown,
Good old Charlie Brown.
When he said 'Let's paint the town.'
I couldn't let an old friend down.

GIRLS / BOYS
Where've you been all night? / I bumped into Charlie Brown.
Yes your dinner's on the light.
Don't consider poor me, / Remember Charlie Brown,
Just as long as you're alright. / Good old Charlie Brown.
Johnny wants new shoes, / When he said 'Let's paint the
And the kids have bust a fuse, / town.'
And you really do look a sight! / I couldn't let an old friend
/ down.

KIDS
Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Let's play mums and dads.
Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Funny mums and dads.

GIRLS
You're a selfish swine,
You've been out since half-past nine!
Just remember these kids
Must be yours as well as mine.
While I've been stuck here,
Where's me 'usband? Guzzling beer!
Harmonizing Sweet Adeline.

BOYS
Then why don't you turn me out?
Come on and turn me out!
I dare you turn me out!
Who'd 'ave thought my love you'd doubt?
I bought you home a bottle of stout!

GIRLS / BOYS
You're a selfish swine, / Then why don't you
You've been out since half-past nine! / turn me out?
Just remember these kids / Come on and turn me
/ out
Must be yours as well as mine. / I dare you turn me
/ out
While I've been stuck here, / Who'd 'ave thought
Where's me 'usband? Guzzling beer! / my love you'd doubt?
Harmonizing Sweet Adeline. / I bought you home a
/ bottle of stout!

(Then repeat the Girls and Boys lines above and add – at the
same time the Small Group below)

SMALL GROUP
Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Let's play mums and dads.
Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Funny mums and dads.

KIDS
Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Let's play mums and dads.
Mums and dads, mums and dads,
Funny mums and dads.
