I have just been trying to organise accomodation for this years festival only to find out it is now a ten day affair starting on 17th October. Does anyone know which weekend is the shanty festival?

It's likely to be as previous years Jane, with various events in various places including Saltburn (I think) and Staithes, leading up to the final weekend in Whitby.

But it's also likely to be as in previous years, very difficult to find any information about until the very last minute (possibly because nothing is definitely arranged until the last minute?).

Good luck!

Nuff said eh! If it is the last weekend ie the 24th it clashes with Music port but hey what the hell the more music the merrier. As for tourist info John they are as wise as us! I will keep my fingers crossed that when I get there I do get some shanty singing in some pubs.

Thanks Noreen! So it doesn't clash with musicport but does clash with the Goths!

I have it on good authority that I wouldn't even get a space in a graveyard that weekend! Good planning Mr Grainger.

It has clashed with the Goths before, and with them there Whitby feels really strange. This will be the first time in 4 years when we are not going.
Last year they put a weekend charge of £20 for concerts at the Pavillion, Norma Waterson was billed (we found out when we arrived) but she did not appear.I think they sold 2 tickets. If you give me a ring Jane I can give you some numbers of places we have stayed.

From past experience of this organiser, Norma probably didn't know that she'd been billed to appear- so don't think badly of her for it...

:0)

Thanks Alison but think we're going to give it a miss with it being Goth weekend as well. I was also hoping it was the previous weekend as it is the start of half term. May go up mid week and catch the folk club instead.
