Subject: RE: Lyr Add: GOOD BUNCH OF BISCUITS From: wysiwyg Date: 14 Sep 03 - 07:08 AM Yes, I am sure the one I heard was Jim & Jesse, that harmony had to be them. I'm gonna stick with my transcription; where they differ I can hear them quite clearly and I think the other transcriber didn't figure in their accent. Don't make no nevermind though, as you say; it's a wonderful little song. ~Susan |
Subject: DTAdd Version: Good Bunch of Biscuits From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Sep 03 - 01:26 AM This page has a transcription of a recording of "Good Bunch of Biscuits" by Jim & Jesse McReynolds. There's a recording playing in the background with lyrics that are a bit different - don't know who the recording is from, but I'd guess it's Jim & Jesse. The lyrics in the recording aren't all that different - depends n whether you want to call it a "mess" or a "bunch" or a plate of biscuits. They vary it, according to no set pattern. Makes me think it don't make no nevermind. Cute song. GOOD BUNCH OF BISCUITS (C.Putman-J.Preston) Back in the days when I was a lad There was only one thing that could make me glad A good bunch of biscuits A fine batch of biscuits Papa didn't cuss for just a little bit But if mama didn't make 'em He'd throw a big fit He had to have biscuits A big bunch of biscuits All of us kids all sixteen of us If mama didn't make 'em you could hear us fuss We had to have biscuits A good bunch of biscuits How could a man sop Red-Eyed gravy With a biscuit so light it'll drive you crazy A good bunch of biscuits A fine batch of biscuits [instrumental bridge] I don't know how mama ever coulda made 'em Enough to keep up with the way we ate 'em We had to have biscuits A fine batch of biscuits Bridge: Three times a day Seven days a week We just couldn't resist it Clean off the plate Have another plate Couldn't eat a solitary biscuit Turned eighteen, Got me a wife Thought I'd eat white bread the rest of my life But I got biscuits A fine batch of biscuits If we ever get rich we'll have a lot more but I'll keep eatin' just like I did before A good bunch of biscuits Them hot fried biscuits Bridge: Three times a day Seven days a week We just couldn't resist it Clean off the plate Have another plate Couldn't eat a solitary biscuit Most of us kids had fingernails missin' Caused by grabbin' them hot fried biscuits Had to have biscuits A fine batch of biscuits Goodness Gracious A fine batch of biscuits Goodness Gracious Very good biscuits This page says the songwriter was Preston & Putman. Apparently, it's available on a box set from Bear Family called Bluegrass & More, by Jim & Jesse. Hey, they also recorded a song called "Greenwich Village Folksong Salesman ." I wanna hear that one. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: Lyr Add: GOOD BUNCH OF BISCUITS From: wysiwyg Date: 14 Sep 03 - 12:15 AM Heard this one at TUEAGLES, and transcribed it bes' I could. I can't seem to get back in there just now to grab the artist name. Maybe someone will add it when the site pops back up. ~Susan ============================================ GOOD BUNCH OF BISCUITS 1. Back in the days when I was a lad, There was only one thing that could make me glad. A good bunch of biscuits, a good batch of biscuits. Mama could make mighty good gravy, And there was never no buts nor maybes-- We'd git biscuits, a good bunch of biscuits. 2. Papa didn't cuss but just a little bit, But if mama didn't cook 'em he 'ud throw a big fit, Pass me them biscuits, those High Life biscuits. And us little kids all sixteen of us, If mama didn't make 'em you could hear us fuss, "I want ano'er biscuit, a good bunch of biscuits." CHORUS 1: Three times a day, seven days a week, We just couldn't resist it! Clean up the plate, that was our fate; We didn't leave a solitary biscuit! I don't see how mama ever did make 'em, Enough to keep up with the way we ate 'em, A good bunch of biscuits, a fine bunch of biscuits. 3. I love a man sop red-eyed gravy With a biscuit so light it'll drive you crazy-- A good bunch of biscuits, a good bunch of biscuits. Most of us kids had our fingernails nipped, It was caused by grabbin' them hot-fried biscuits; Goodness gracious, they're good biscuits! CHORUS 2: Three times a day, seven days a week, We just couldn't resist it! Clean up the plate, that was our fate; We didn't leave a solitary biscuit! I don't see how mama ever did bake 'em, Enough to keep up with the way we ate 'em, A good bunch of biscuits, a fine bunch of biscuits. 4. I turned eighteen, I got me a wife, Oughtta be slapped f'r'it, the rest of my life, But I got biscuits, a fine bunch of biscuits. If I ever get rich, we'll have a lot more, But I'll keep eatin' just like I was b'fore. Goodness gracious, they're good biscuits! ... A good bunch of biscuits, a fine bunch of biscuits. Goodness gracious, I got biscuits!... |
