How very odd this thread should revive... I performed this for the first time last Thursday at rose & Crown in Writtle, Essex.

The chords I have are different in places. Think I will try these posted here.

You should add Bm after both Em's...

You may also play it in another key, doing these transformations;

G -> C
D -> G
Em -> Am
Bm -> Em
C -> F

this is the same key that Joni Mitchell sings in on her version of the song ;)

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: ONE TIN SOLDIER

I'm exploring this site for the first time and "ONE TIN SOLDIER" caught my eye. I used to play this when I was in high school and just learning how to play the guitar, so the chords are simple. I hope this helps.

G               D          Em
Listen children to a story that was written long ago,

C G C D
'Bout a kingdom on a mountin, and the valley folk below.

G D Em
On the mountain was a treasure, buried deep beneath a stone.

C G C D G
And the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own.

Chorus:
G D C G
Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.

D C G
Do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end.

G D C G
There won't be any trumpets blowin', come the judgement day.

C D7 D G
On the bloody mornin' after, One Tin Soldier rides away.
Now the people of the valley sent a message up the hill.
Asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which they'd kill.
Came an answer from the mountain, with our brothers we will share,
All the riches of our mountain, all the treasure buried there.

Then the valley cried with anger, "mount your horses, draw your swords."
And they killed the mountain people, so they claimed their just reward.
Now they stand beside the treasure, on the mountain dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it. "Peace on Earth" was all it said.

Chorus

Do you mean the theme from "Billy Jack" as in

Listen children to a story,

That was written long ago,

Bout a kingdom on a mountain

And the valley folk below . . .

And so forth?

I remember a song called 'Little Tin Soldier' recorded long ago by Donovan. It starts:-

'Once in a town in the Black Forest A little tin soldier stood ...'

If this is the same song - let me know and I'll try and remember the rest.
