Subject: Lyr Req: Another parody: Friends in Gold Vases From: nancyjo Date: 17 Sep 03 - 02:39 PM There was a commercial record made and played on some country stations of Garth Brooks' FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES. It was called FRIENDS IN GOLD VASES. It was about how the singer lost three friends in accidents all close together and the graveyard was out of plots, so he had to have his friends cremated. They sat (in his TV, I think,) in gold vases in his home. I would love the lyrics for this, as well as any info on who wrote and recorded it. My memory is that the recording was done by whoever wrote it. Thanks. nancyjo |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Friends in Gold Vases (parody) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Dec 11 - 03:00 PM I found a band called Cotton-Eyed Bo and the Buzzards who made an album called "Breakin' the Wind" that contains FRIENDS IN GOLD VASES. The above link no longer works, but I think it's a good guess that Bo Reynolds is (or was) also known as Cotton-Eyed Bo. |
Subject: Lyr Req: FRIENDS IN GOLD VASES (parody) From: GUEST,999 Date: 18 Dec 11 - 12:02 AM From http://barely--legal.blogspot.com/2005/10/bo-man-lyrics.html "Monday, October 10, 2005 Having friend's pass away is not funny, but leave it to Bo Man to turn a funny twist to it...I was actually TOLD by someone, to post these lyrics...So, hope everyone else find's this funny too!! :-) FRIENDS IN GOLD VASES (Bo Reynolds) Buzz: Hey Bo man. These are great urns you got sittin' here on your tv. Where did you get 'em? On your vacation to Greece? Bo: No Buzz: Family earnloom? Bo: Nope Buzz: Wal-mart? Bo: Buzz, do you remember my buddy Earl? Buzz: Oh yeah. The guy that tried to milk a bull, and it kicked him in the head. Bo: Yeah, and my buddy Clyde? Buzz: Yeah, he was teaching his wife to drive a stick, and she ran him over, and killed him. Bo: Poor fella'! And what my friend Ned the human tripod, that lost his leg to a wheat combine? Buzz: Ugh! Tragic!! Bo: Well, do you remember the services at the church? Buzz: All three were so lovely. But you know Bo Man, I don't remember going out to the cemetery. Bo: Well, that's because we never got to bury those guys. Buzz: Don't tell me!!! **Starts to sing** Bo: Blame it all a bad day. My friend's pasted away. The cemetery was packed to the gills. Not an empty gravesite, to give them last rights, but my buddies fixed that in their wills. The boy's always' said, that when they were dead, to raise up a glass of champagne. Well, I toasted you, and said "Fella's life maybe through, but where do I keep the remains?" CHORUS: Now I got friends in gold vases, and my house is their eternal resting places. Since they deceased. I hope they rest in peace. Now I'm not big on incineration, but my only option was cremation. Now I've got friend's, in gold vases. Some say it's wrong. They just don't belong, in a jar on my TV. If I know my guys, I'm not surprised if they are where they wanted to be. More romantically put, an urn full of soot, their memory pulled from the fire. Instead of decayed, their ashes are proudly displayed. For, all of the world to admire. Chorus: 2x's **talking** Ya know, sometimes the craziest thing's in the world can happen. Your best friend's can up, and die on ya. You talk to them one day, and the next day they're gone. Then you get a letter from their lawyer, saying that you are the executor of their wills. After you read it, something's wrong. I didn't first notice it, and I read it, and I read it. It never hit me till all of a sudden, I was driving around one day back home. And "The Dance" by Garth came on the radio, and I said "Bo Man" That's what I go by, back home, is the Bo Man! I said "Bo Man, would you handle this situation that way?" and I said "No, I don't think I would. But that's what the fella's wanted!" So for those of you that disagree, I hope you don't mind, but I had to go back, and write a third verse for this song. And it goes something like this…Well some say it's wrong, they just don't belong. In a jar, sittin' on my TV. But if I know the guys, well I'm not surprised if their right where they wanted to be. Hey it's not morbid, to do what I did. Keep all my friend's under glass. If you don't agree, with our ceremony. Well, you can kiss their a—sh. Chorus: 'Cause I've got friends in gold vases, and my house is their eternal resting places. Since they deceased. I hope they rest in peace. Now I'm not big on incineration, but my only option was cremation. Now I've got friends, in gold vases. I've got friends in gold vases. **talking**" Thank you very much everybody! Goodnight! God bless! I'll be here all week! Try the meal, tip your waitresses, and don't forget to pick-up my new single, "Dust In The Bottle." |
