(I'VE GOT A) TIGER BY THE TAIL
(Buck Owens/Harlan Howard)

CHORUS: I've got a tiger by the tail, it's plain to see.
I won't be much when you get through with me.
Well, I'm a-losing weight and a-turning mighty pale.
Looks like I've got a tiger by the tail.

Well, I thought the day I met you, you were meek as a lamb,
Just the kind to make my dreams and plans;
But now the pace we're living takes the wind from my sail.
Looks like I've got a tiger by the tail. CHORUS

Every night you drag me where the bright lights are found.
There ain't no way to slow you down.
I'm about as helpless as a leaf in a gale,
And it looks like I've got a tiger by the tail. CHORUS

[Recorded by Buck Owens, Harlan Howard, Ernest Tubb, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Country Joe McDonald, Ray Charles, The Nashville Rhythm Kings, and others.]

Subject: Lyr Add: TIGER BY THE TAIL (parody, Homer & Jethro
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 21 Sep 03 - 08:02 PM

Another classic country song was posted purely for the purpose of posting the parody. Transcribed from the sound file at The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites, Real Country Page 14.

TIGER BY THE TAIL
(Homer and Jethro)

We went to see the circus when it played in our hometown.
Before the show, we had a look around.
While lookin' at the animals, ol' Jethro disappeared.
I looked for him and suddenly I heared:

"A tiger's got me by the tail, it's plain to see.
He shore is changin' my anatomy.
I'm getting weak, my mind is going blank,
And it looks like I'm a-gonna wind up in his tank."

Old Jethro yelled, "Hey, tiger! Come on now, let me go,
'Cause you and me could make a lot of dough.
I'll be your bookin' agent and pretty soon you'll be
Doin' gasoline commercials on TV.

"A tiger's got me by the tail, it's plain to see.
His Sunday dinner I'm about to be.
I know my mama's gonna have a fit
When she finds out just where the tiger bit."

We thank you, Harlan Howard, and we thank Buck Owens too.
We offer our apologies to you.
Don't lock us up, or sue us, or ride us on a rail
For the way we sung "A Tiger by the Tail."
