Subject: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Trevor Date: 30 Sep 03 - 05:33 AM The third in the series of top flight dos in Hope, Shropshire features Bob Pegg. He's bringing his 'Last Wolf' storytelling and songs to the Village Hall on 29th November. P-mail me for more info about the gig, and have a look at this for some stuff about the man himself. Be there or be to the power of two! |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Geoff the Duck Date: 01 Oct 03 - 03:10 AM It's nice to see that Bob now has a website. The last time I tried to look up references to Bob - during a Mudcat thread about Mr Fox, there were only references third hand. Thanks for the link! Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: red max Date: 01 Oct 03 - 05:16 AM Thanks for the link. I was listening to The Last Wolf just the other day, and the songs from the Calderdale cycle are really remarkable, almost as good as the Mr Fox stuff. Does anyone know what became of Carolanne? I thought her solo album was really enjoyable, but I'm not aware of anything else she's done |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: The Borchester Echo Date: 01 Oct 03 - 07:25 AM Carole Pegg went back to university and became a leading expert in Mongolian music. Some years ago when between contracts and just freelancing around the BBC, I discovered that the 'holiday relief' job I was covering was that of their daughter Clancy Pegg who I had last seen aged about 7 at a Bob & Carole gig at the Enterprise, Chalk Farm in the early 70s. I too was very pleased to see Bob's website. I do hope he will be venturing even further south because I should really like to see him perform again. |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Trevor Date: 05 Nov 03 - 06:44 AM Still a few tickets left for anybody interested. Also a FANTASTIC support act by the name of Rapsquillion (he blushed prettily). Great value for eight quid. |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Kevin Sheils Date: 05 Nov 03 - 08:09 AM Good to see a web presence for Bob, I enjoyed meeting him again a few years back when he did the Sidmouth Festival (about the time that "The Last Wolf" was released). I found it interesting that he mentions the two Mr Fox albums in the early days section of the web site but not the album "He Came From the Mountains" which was released as Bob & Carole Pegg rather than Mr Fox but recorded around the same time. I realise it was on Trailer and is undoubtedly buried in those vaults but surely Bob hasn't forgotten it. I'll drop him an email...... |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: red max Date: 09 Jan 04 - 05:32 AM I like He Came from the Mountains, but I reckon it's way behind the Mr Fox albums. I gather they also recorded an LP called And Now it is So Early, but those were all Sydney Carter songs. Anyone heard that one? Recommended? |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: flatcap Date: 09 Jan 04 - 12:26 PM Is this an isolated gig, or is he going to do more? It would be great to see him again ! |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Dave Hanson Date: 10 Jan 04 - 12:41 AM More in Hope than expectation. eric |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Trevor Date: 14 Jan 04 - 04:36 AM I can't tell you what the future plans are - he came to Hope because we 'phoned and asked him - it wasn't part of a tour I don't think. Incidentally, he also had a story-telling session with the local primary school on the afternoon before the gig, which had a great response from kids and parents. |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Jan 04 - 05:06 AM I can also confirm that Bob is an all round good guy:-) I sent him a question about the journey of the Gypsy from the album of the same name. Not only did he answer my question but sent me a copy of 'The Last Wolf' as well. And a wonderful album it is too. Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Jan 04 - 05:08 AM I always thought Hope was in Derbyshire btw - Next stop to Edale on the Manchester/Sheffield line. Is it a different Hope? :D |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Trevor Date: 14 Jan 04 - 06:33 AM Yep, we're about 10 miles south of Shrewsbury. It did once confuse a girlfriend who was back home at Hope Valley in Shropshire when I made a reverse-charge call from a box in Hope Valley, Derbyshire. |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: red max Date: 14 Jan 04 - 08:20 AM DtG, what was "the white lady", then? I remember you were puzzling over that reference. Are you still planning to walk it I liked The Last Wolf, too, but the older songs from the Calderdale Cycle seemed a lot stronger to me than his newer stuff He was kind enough to reply to an email enquiry of mine, and said that he mostly does storytelling gigs because that's what he's become known for. I don't think he has any objection to playing the old songs, in which case... WE NEED A MR FOX REUNION. Best damn folk rock band ever! |
Subject: RE: Bob Pegg in Hope From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Jan 04 - 09:15 AM 'twas indeed the White Lady, Max. She was an apparition seen by Jackies Dad and Uncle. Jackie is mentioned in the song (Have you seen the Gypsies I asked my friend Jackie...) The ghostly white lady crossed the road up near where Wharfedale meets Langsthropdale and then disappeared into the stream! Spooky or what? And yes, I am still planning the walk (but not stopping up there at night;-) ) I am on my first walk of the year this Sunday. By April, fitness permitting, I hope to begin preparations in ernest. Possibly May bank holiday? I said I would keep Bob posted on the venture as well. Cheers :D |
