Today's UK press has results of a poll from people who think their home town is crap. Hull comes top!
Strangely, Bracknell isn't in the top 50, though Ascot is 21st. I'm proud to say my own birth City of a Thousand Trades isn't there either.

My uncle's from the Land of Green Ginger and I always thought it was a decent enough place - but then I'm from Halifax. Anyone from Hell to complete the set??

South Ferriby is known as the city of one trade after Mr Benson established his tripe works there in 1933.

Never having been to Hull, I can't comment.

From what I've read, the Brandshome estate would seem to be pretty grim.

I'm amazed that my current locale, Stockport, only makes number 12.

It's a terrible place.

Bits of the outskirts are OK (Marple is nice), but the town centre is horrible.

I don't know if this helps, but an irate man yelled "Go to Hull!" at me the other day in traffic. It was a silly thing for him to say, I think, as it would require me to take a ferry across the Atlantic. "Go there, yourself!" I retorted.

I think it was rigged - how come Morecambe didn't win - it only came third - what a stitch up! - it should have won - it's the crappest place in the world

John - I think Hull is very nice and shouldn't have been in the list at all

Cehch tihs out,

Aoccdring to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn`t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is that the frist and lsat ltteer be at the tghit pclae.

Am I right in saying that only the people of Hull have voted Hull as the crappiest place?
Or am I misreading the thread?

Hull of course is a fine place - it's completely wasted on the people who live here. I'm thinking of getting rid of some of the wingers and getting in some proper people.

I spent 12 years on Bransholme, it ain't that bad, it's a bit rough, but I only knew one person that got murdered, [my next door neighbour]

Theres a big telly in the middle of the town centre now, it gives the druggies and beggars something to do, stop them getting bored etc.

Never been to Spain

Hoyt Axton, there was a man

How could Beverly count as Hull -only in the rules of Mornington Crescent.

And we don't go everywhere cos theres no need. you could go everywhere but then you would not be able to 'know' anywhere, and then you'd know nowt. Not that I would defend people who go nowhere at all - although I'm sure that has its charms.
