Subject: Pressgang Rogues? From: Ringer Date: 02 Oct 03 - 07:55 AM Someone at work brought in a vinyl LP, saying, "Here, you like folk music, don't you?". It's by "Pressgang Rogues", and the material is traditional (eg "Tailor's Breeches") although the presentation isn't. I've never heard of this band. Has anyone else? The LP sleeve is devoid of text other than the band's name and a warning that it can't be played on a CD system. (I don't recommend it by the way: they use trad material only as a vehicle for rhythm & screaming, omit the tunes entirely, and are completely insensitive to the integrity of the original material.) |

Subject: RE: Pressgang Rogues? From: Padre Date: 02 Oct 03 - 09:06 AM I think the name of the group is "Pressgang" and the album title is "Rogues" they are described on several sites (I did a Google search) as a Scottish 'funfolkpunk" band. That ought to be enough warning. |

From: Leadfingers Date: 02 Oct 03 - 10:36 AM If it is the Pressgang I know, they were not Scottish ,but Reading, Berks. based. Some fine musicians who took traditional material and adapted it to suit a young audience, with a fair degree of success. Sadly they ceased to be a working band a year or two back.My only complaint about them was that they tended to be TOO loud. |

Subject: RE: Pressgang Rogues? From: Ringer Date: 03 Oct 03 - 09:18 AM Thanks for the input. The person who produced the LP thought they were a Sheffield band: they certainly get around, don't they? |
