This came in a campus announcement today:

Colorful former Tarrant County Commissioner B.D. Griffin, who received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from UTA in 1976, died Sept 28. He was 70. Griffin, a fiddler, had performed with singers Willie Nelson and Robert Miller and played at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville before joining the law enforcement profession. He was also Tarrant County (Texas) deputy sheriff.
