DAY TRIP TO BLACKPOOL

Didn't we have a Funny old time, the day we went to Blackpool.
A miserable day, we got drunk on the way and spent our money on chips and bingo
Hour after hour we sat in the bar and drank a gallon of cider
And on the way back I was sick over Jack and the rain came down.

Eric and Sid had bet us a quid we could climb the Blackpool Tower,
But Newcastle Brown made Eric fall down, so we went into a Wimpy Bar.
Then Sidney was ill all over the bill, we had to call a waiter.
He said we could stay 'cause we couldn't pay and the rain came down.

---Chorus---

Old Uncle Bill, he wanted a thrill so we took him to the fun fair
He went on the slides and all of the rides and told his joke to the laughing policeman
Gadding about had tired him out so we went into the Waxworks
Where he fell asleep – so off we did creep and the rain came down

---Chorus---

Do you recall the thrill of it all, we organised a Party
Under the pier with a gallon of beer, and a fire we'd made from broken deck chairs
We all sang songs but some took too long and then it came to my turn
I couldn't begin 'cause the tide had come in and the rain came down.

---Chorus---

Sidney and me were in need of a wee, so we climbed upon the band-stand.
Re-cycled booze all over our shoes and quite a bit on the band as well.
We jumped in the car, but we didn't get far, a Policeman pulled us over.
We were out of our brain, 'cause we'd gone down by train, and the rain came down.

---Chorus---

eee that were grand... thanks for popping in Gary and Carol... and anyone else I didn't get to chat with.... Back again on the 14th October (11.30am-2.00pm) for "more of the same"

another song to keep u going...........

WIGAN PIER.

I've heard it said that there's a pier in Wigan Town somewhere,
George Formby said, "It led to t'sands, on stilts up in the air."
Some folk said that, "It's a myth," but I don't think that they're right,
'Cause I once fell off that Wigan Pier, when staggering home one night.

Chorus:-
'Cause it's long and it's strong and it leads nowhere,
You can see it when the weather is clear.
If you feel inclined and you've got the time,
You can spend a lovely day on Wigan Pier.

I've taken part in catching tripe, in waters crystal clean,
You hang some 'Mint Balls' on a string and hope that they are seen.
The tripe they come and swim around, all shining bright and new,
And just to show where they've come from, there's Wigan written all through.

--Chorus--

One day the Q.E.2. came sailing up to Wigan Pier,
The bunting flew and the brass band played, to show the Queen we're here,
She stepped ashore to wondrous cheers and started to recall,
I've seen some piers in all my years, but this pier beats them all.

--Chorus--

So if your asked if there's a Pier in Wigan Town somewhere,
Don't laugh it off like others do, look round you'll see it there.
It's spick and span and painted white, it's standing out a mile,
But if you're asked just where it is, don't say owt just smile.

--Chorus--

You're the only one

Words & Music P J Skinner © 2003

When you see the setting sun, lighting up the sky
Don't be sad at its parting, or the day that's just passed by
Look up to the evening sky and see the wondrous sight
And take in all the pleasures of the night

It's no use crying at things that might have been
And it's no use sighing at things you haven't seen
Thing about tomorrow and all the things to come
And you'll realise that you're the lucky one

Building castle out of sand in the summer sun
The tide will wash them all away no sooner than you're done
But the sand and memory's still there for ever it will last
For nothing can wipe away the past

Chorus

The road that you decide to take, may not be the one
That will take you on to where you thought you should have gone
But it will still support you, and take you to the end
As on through life your only way you wend

Chorus

So enjoy the things around you and take the time it takes
Build on your successes and learn from your mistakes
There are no heights to climb to, no one to beat, you see
You'll always be the best you, you can be

Don't forget - it's Tuesday tomorrow....

'ere's a song...

SEVEN GOLDEN MILES FOR ME

The Lasses in wakes weeks come here in flocks,
Take the tram up to Fleetwood to visit the docks.
When paddling in the sea they'd lift up their frocks.
That's where they make Fishermen Friends.

The Farquhars from Chorley with Mary their daughter,
Went up to Lytham, to take the water.
Mary had far too much water than she aughter,
Then she had fish chips --- and pees.

Folk come to Blackpool to do many things,
For t'lights or the fun that each season brings,
To court or to woo or maybe to swing,
Or maybe just do nowt at all.

Two thugs were disputing how they'd kill an hour
One wanted the pier, the other the tower
Thought a grinning gipsy was abusing her power
So they struck a happy medium instead.

The ladies of Pilling are said to be willing
Folk tell me that they will do owt for a shilling,
So all t'lads from Blackpool to Pilling are milling.
To see what they get for two bob.

Go down to the beach, if you take the notion,
To swim in the sea, it's just like an ocean.
They tell me it's just like going through the motions,
It's seven golden miles for me.

refresh and a song from some good friends (also on our last CD!)

The Aardvark Song
c: 1989 His Worship & the Pig

When God made creation, the seas had crustaceans, the dry land had forests and woods,
And very soon mammals like horses and camels came issuing forth from the primeval mud,
And when it was right, He said: Let there be light! and there was, 'cause he'd left nowt to luck,
And the first thing He sees when He looks down is me, and in His angelic voice he went: Yuk!

Chorus.
It's aardvark being an aardvark,
It's a lot harder than you might think
All day on your pins you are trying to convince
A hard uncaring world you 're not really extinct.
No-one says: Oh look, there's an aardvark!
Like they might do a camel or cat.
They just give us a kick or a poke with a slick,
And they' say': What the hell d'you call that?

If you ask a zebra what gives him most pleasure, he might say: Life on the savannah.
Seems he don't give a toss that he looks like a cross between an old horse and an upright pianna.
When kids at the zoo get their first view of the zebra, they always go: Aah!
But when they see me they react diff'rently, and that is what makes life so hard.

Chorus.

Ask a giraffe and he'll say it's no laugh, being twenty foot high is a bind.
Though he sees all the trees with the greatest of ease, he can't get to scratch his own - well never mind'.
And he'll stamp and say: Heck! It's a pain in the neck! And I couldn't say he was wrong.
Wouldn't you get self-righteous if you got tonsillitis, and your tonsils were ten foot six long?

Chorus.

Now take the hyena, 'cause he must have been at the back when they gave the brains out.
He'll giggle all day in that lunatic way, and he hasn't a clue what he's laughing about.
There was one got a shock when he fell in the wok in a Chinese cafe' in Bangkok,
But the chef being no ass, simply turned up the gas, and he made a complete laughing stock.

Chorus.

Now your aardvark's quite mild, he's not vicious or wild, he's renowned for being timid and shy,
They don't go in for fighting or scratching or biting they won't armadillo or even a fly,
They'll run and fetch sticks and do silly tricks, like Lie Down And Play Dead For The King.
And you'd never regret having one as a pet, then there'd be one less of us to sing:

Chorus.

C. U. 2morrow

another song from "His Worship & The Pig"

If You Had A Brain You'd Be Dangerous.

Well you think that Sherlock Holmes is a local block of flats,
That circumnavigation is what we do to cats.
You think that crazy paving's only done by psychopaths.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Chorus.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous,
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.
I'll tell you to your face you're a total waste of space,
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Well you think that ratatouille must have two rats in the pan,
You think the best Lambrusco's only use New Zealand lamb
And you say you'd dread to think what they must put in coc-au-vin.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Chorus.

You think that Motte & Bailey were solicitors of old
That a gargoyle is a mouthwash for a medieval cold
You think a flying buttress is an all in wrestling hold.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Chorus.

When they said you had acute angina you were really pleased,
You're sure that life began with small orgasms in the seas.
You're convinced that David Mellor has got Parkinson's disease.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Chorus.

You think to dip your headlights you'd need a lot of water,
You think that a vendetta is a type of motor scauter.
You're convinced that Joan of Arc was Noah's eldest daughter.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Chorus.

You think 'On Human Bondage' is a book packed full of vice.
That a condominium's a contraceptive type device.
You think a sixty-nine is battered prawns with egg fried rice.
If you had a brain you'd be dangerous.

Chorus.

reminder. The Steamer 11.30am to 2.30pm

and The Bull Waterloo Rd South Shore Blackpool. Song & Musicians session 9pm -

The Blackpool Bull
(tune: Blackpool Belle)

The Blackpool Bull is a great old pub, down near South Shore Station
A wondrous sight on a Tuesday night, it's the pride of all the Nation
There's music and fun, for everyone, come down and have a sing
Scuttlebugs, Pennyblack and all the gang will make the rafters ring.

Just remember where you've been
And the happy crowd that always make you grin
For a pub that's full of cheer, good friends and good beer
It's a rite good time you have at the old bull inn

Scuttlebugs Dave see him there, the leader of the band
Five Fingers Phil, playing with a will, mandolin in his hand
Kevin comes in with his violin, sits down in the row
Picks up his fiddle rosins his bow, then the Guinness starts to flow

Now Penny Black, would like you'd to think, that they're two first class males
With a Lancashire song, to sing along, and one or two saucy tales
John plays guitar and drives the car, Pete plays the banjo runs
It's just the habit they've got because they're Blackpool's Sand grown nuns

There's many more that come, along and sing a song or two
They're all our friends to make amends; we'll name a few for you
Pete & Ron keep the beat. Di & Eileen play sweet with David's dulcet tones
And Dot who proves that a good tune can be played upon old bones

Paul's the Landlord of the pub, he always keeps good ale
Pauline's a star behind the bar, a smile with every sale
So sit you down, and loose that frown, have a real good time
Forget your cares and worries till the last bell makes its chime

Fleetwoods near Knott End........

Not the Nott End Ferry
(tune: My Bonney Lies over the Ocean)

A visitor went up to Fleetwood,
For a trip on the Ferry he'd pay
To get to the clog shop at Knott End,
But they told him "we don't run today"

Don't run can't run, we won't run the Ferry today, today
It's not running, you'll just have to find your own way

He said he would wait till tomorrow
The time didn't matter to him
But when he returned the next morning
The weather was looking too grim

The next day was looking quite sunny
But as he pulled up on his bike
The skipper and crew were just leaving
They said they were going on strike

The strike it was over the next day
And just as he started to gloat
They chained up the entry and closed it
They'd just found a hole in the boat

The next day everything went well
Till he found out some kids for a prank
Had been down to the ferry last evening
And run away with the Gang plank

He waited to Sunday to come round
But still he was left in the lurch
For no one was there at the ferry
The staff were all down at the church

With night coming on he decided
If Knott end on sea he must see
With the Knot end ferry not running
A trip on his bike it must be

He set off then on his half marathon
It took him best part of the night
For his bike was not rigged for night riding
He'd only two candles for lights

He arrived in Knott end at sunrise
He made his own way and not paid
But just as he started his gloating
The ferry pulled in at the slade

He ran up and asked them directions
The clog man he wanted to seek
The Captain just smiled and retorted
The shop moved to Fleetwood last week

Had to go back to where he'd begun
But the winter timetables just started
And in winter the Ferries don't run

now is that putting the boot in???

It has come to our note that a certain old folk singers from Bolton has take to singing the above songs by Penny Black e.g. Not the Knot End Ferry -

NB Penny Black are please to see that the individual has at last started to improve on the songs he sings but must point out that All their songs are registered with PRS and the requisite payments should be paid for public performances (Not that he does that many)- LLAP!

PS when are you going to get a proper Lancashire accent????
