oops i apologise...it's not the irish rebel song....but thanks for trying to answer my query.

the chorus goes something like this....

watch them sail away
somewhere where the river flows
some love last forever
just like the river flows

so it's also not the eco-warrior song to the same tune as "Come tell me Seán O'Farrell ..." song you've already been referred to - recorded by Seán Tyrell. I could've gotten you that one.

Oh Paddy dear and did you hear the awful news they say
Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon they have joined the IRA
They're drilling in the mountains to the sounds of fife and drum
Yon Tony's taking snapshots, while young Maggie fires a gun.

Part of an ill remebered parody from 30 years ago.

Thirty seconds at Google locates the following:

Kate Wolf: Rising of the Moon

It's a pdf file, so you will need Acrobat to read it. It has absolutely nothing to do with the "rebel" song that happens to be one of many that share the title.

Here's a transcription from the link Malcolm posted. The song is in Kate's "Revisited" songbook. It's on her The Wind Blows Wild CD. Wish I could remember where I put mu Kate Wolf CD's, so I could actually listen to it.
-Joe Offer-

RISING OF THE MOON
(Kate Wolf)

The rising of the moon on the Oregon borderline
Lights up the river's edge and the wild blackberry vine
And the sand beneath my feet is a cool silver grey
The moon dances on the water, and then it sails away
And I watch it sail away, somewhere where the river goes
Some love lasts forever, just like the river flows
On the last day of July, you sailed into my mind
We were riding down a river, the wind blowing from behind
There were two great blue herons flying through the trees
Moving up the canyon, so silent and free
And I watched them sail away, somewhere where the river goes
Some love lasts forever, just like the river flows
I hope the years are happy and the winters aren't too cold
And that life won't treat you badly; I'd like to see you when you're old
I'll keep you in my heart like the crying of the loon
And wonder how you are at the rising of the moon
And I watched you sail away, somewhere where the river goes
Some love lasts forever, just like the river flows

The song gives me pictures of places I've seen so often here in Northern California. She really captures the wonder of this place.
Now that I live in the Sierra foothills, I realize that I can't think of any good Kate Wolf Sierra songs. She lived nearer to the coast - maybe that's why.

I used to go to the Sonoma Folk Festival at the Luther Burbank Center - it was a very good festival and it brought together a lot of fond memories of Kate.

On the Kate Wolf home page, they sell a two volume songbook which I think has most of her songs. There's a wealth of other great info on that site including short clips of many of her songs and her comments on some of them.

Reluctant Patriot

Now paddy dearer now did you here
The awful things they say
Princess Margaret and lord Snowdon
They have joined the IRA
I They are drilling in the mogdon
To the sound of the fifth and drum.
Young Tony's tacking snapshots
While young Maggie fires the gun
While young Maggie fires the gun
While young Maggie fires the gun
Young Tony's tacking snapshots
While young Maggie fires the gun

When the news reached Dublin castle
de Valera jumped with joy
Said he now Joe's a comrade
He's a descent Irish boy
And as for Princess Maggie
She's a darling sweet colleen
And spread the news through Ireland
From Strabane to Skibbereen,
From Strabane to Skibbereen,
From Strabane to Skibbereen,
And spread the news through Ireland
From Strabane to Skibbereen,

When the news it reached the pales
Filed the queen with much delight
She rerd up at prince Philip
In the middle of the night
Ah says she now get your Rolls Royce out
Get ready quick and soon
We must reach dear old Ireland
By the rising of the moon
By the rising of the moon
By the rising of the moon
We must reach dear old Ireland
By the rising of the moon

Ah now paddy dear I tell ya
Theirs terrible things in the land
The queen and de Valera
They are waking hand in hand
Oh what's a funniest thing me boys
That I have ever seen
Prince Phillip playing polo
On his ass in St Steven green
On his ass in St Steven green
On his ass in St Steven green
Prince Phillip playing polo
On his ass in St Steven green

all the best ferret

Inspired by a rafting trip with her family down the Klamath River in 1982.
